I am happier than I should be about them resetting the first-time-purchase genesis bonus. Time to full-clear the list again, at least baal will be a guarantee now.

Honesly surprised they haven't lowered the cost of standard fates to 100 primos yet though.

Yeah, I think it's good business sense to get known as one of the 'generous' gacha games, although Genshin in particular involves less rolling and fewer characters than most, so I can understand if they don't wanna get too crazy. I still wish the anniversary was cooler, but of COURSE I wish that, I want free entertainment.

Yeah, Chong is one of the least energy dependent characters in the game, especially after C4. In that last clip, I burst twice and have half my energy filled up by the end. With +0 ER. He also potentially increases his teammates' particle generation by 17% (though that requires perfect timing). In any case, Kazuha is already a beast particle generator and even more with Chong shaving ~1s off his cd. Side note, I've realized that nothing in this game makes me rage more than CD increase effects and mechanics that punish quick swapping.

my take on the anniversary thing is i half expect something on the actual date, just more to the tune of a mail message with a handful of rolls and other stuff. not anything i'll be broken up over if it doesn't happen but also not unreasonable even with the other stuff they're doing (i'm not even sure what all of it is meant to be taken as "anniversary," just the 10 fate campaign? and bonus reset lol)

now what we really should be getting is some loving male characters. god help paimon if she doesn't have the drip marketing come September 1

Eh, now you're just replacing crit with Healing Bonus on the headpiece, and HP%/ATK% for all your substats. You do worry about rolling crit, except the other way around because they're a deader stat than flat HP/ATK.

Of course, can't have artifact stress if you just don't use her at all!

Jokes aside, I never really thought about how Kokomi should be built, and that maybe no one in beta was building her right. That still doesn't solve her ICD issue, but maybe she can pump HP and ATK high enough to get decent numbers.

Ok, I actually took some time to crunch numbers, and if I did it right and am understanding the healing bonus effect, then I think people are sleeping on Kokomi's damage potential.

I assumed ~40k HP, which is achievable with an HP sands, +1000 flat HP on the sands, +20% HP on other pieces, Millelith, and Prototype Amber. She's only ~1k base HP lower than ZL, so it's not too crazy.

The HP scaling on her burst is added after the talent modifier, but before DMG multipliers. So however much bonus damage it adds divided by the base talent damage is essentially your "crit". Say her ATKxTalent value is 1500 and her burst bonus adds another 6000, then she's essentially doing 400% C.DMG on a 100% C.Rate.

I'm not quite sure how the Healing Bonus, uh, bonus is calculated. My guess is that 15% of it gets added to the numbers on the burst. You can get 51.8% HB with a crown + her passive, and 15% of that is 7.77%. On her NA at level 10, 8.71% of her HP becomes 16.48%

So let's say she has an ATK stat of 1500. The first hit of her NA has a talent multiplier of 123%, then its value before DMG multipliers come into play is 1845. Kokomi's HP bonus adds 16.48% of 40k, which is 6592, or +357% extra damage.

I think she might actually be nuts during her burst if built correctly.

I admittedly kind of hate listening to general gamers going on about much of anything for any length of time anymore. period I remember joking with a friend while on lunch at work and after realizing a trailer for some new Pokemon games got uploaded this week that I could hear the bitching all the way from there for example cause I know that's just one of those franchises where any time anything happens with it gamers online go straight into histrionic meltdown performances. I don't even think it's a conscious coherent act anymore, these people just like complaining about stuff as some sort of competition on line as to who can be the most performatively mad about....stuff.

IMO the secret is just don't put yourself out there on the chopping block. If you provide a face or name to something it's all your fault (see Masahiro Sakurai for example) whatever it is. Don't offer free stuff or people will say they want more. Don't tease a trailer for a character or game mode or something and then wait several weeks or months to do anything about it and give people time to invent their candy land reality about it that nothing could ever live up too.
Like don't ever let gamer's control the narrative or it's just kind of over for you before it's even begun on the PR front. Most people ultimately just bitch and buy at the end of the day though and it's purely performative white noise for the sake of getting attention online, but we all have to listen to it sometimes when it really gets out of control.

Right now I think the thing people most need to STFU is probably this Ganyu rerun banner thing that doesn't seem to have a basis in much of anything other than people know she's busted and is literally the GOAT as of year one. My guess is some popular youtuber rear end in a top hat made a video or post about it and got the ball rolling on that one and it got people all twisted up cause they can't separate rumor and speculation from official upcoming banner news so when there isn't a Ganyu rerun in the next couple months potentially I expect some people will fully and totally lose their loving minds about it on Mihoyo social media.

 Admittedly kind of glad somebody liked that one, but that's basically what it comes across like at the end of day. I don't even know where they get some of this "stuff" from half the time but like I said it's probably some youtuber or twitter handle that is in the business of rumors and "leaks" and just knows how to get people going to exploit social media's incentivization of just getting the maximum amount of traffic possibly as the ultimate measure of success. Reason being when people start to go on about something it just comes on overnight all at once and suddenly everybody just cares and is totally up in arms about this one particular thing, so clearly there's got to be some source as it often comes across as things that just about nobody would be on about or consider important on their own let alone dozens of people.

Apparently the whole "OMG GANYU RERUN IMMINENT HOLY SHIIIIIIIET YOU GUYS!!!!!!" thing came from some leaker. As for the anniversary I just figure it exists therefore people complain about it because what else are they ever gonna do on the internet. The fact that when people do that whole bit I refer to as"complaining shitheads" they never seem to define a clear standard for what "good" is in order to compare anything too really and just seem to generate poo poo in a vacuum and then say it's bad or not good enough because "reasons" kind of indicates this to me. Like yeah if you have like absolutely nothing to compare something too as a measure of good or bad you can just say anything is loving bad really because there's no other end of the spectrum. Ergo it really doesn't loving mean anything at the end of the day and is just people saying a bunch of "stuff".

To be honest I didn't even really realize it was the 1st anniversary coming up until it seemed people were just loving complaining yet again about stuff. I don't know I kind of have a life and don't always pay attention to this sort of stuff and look for things to complain about in video games, but the way it sounds to me like they're shaving 10-15% off of my next journey towards getting a 5 star character at some point. That sure is a thing that's happening I imagine.

TL;DR: "I bitch therefore I am" comes to mind as a fitting mantra for gamer's desired form of self-actualization processes in the social media age.

Very young and very online and also tied into the whole weeb community which became by and large completely insufferable sometime around 2014 when the online communities for it became all but married to twitter and reddit using teens activities. 4chan's influence and how far too many anime/JRPG watching teams seem to feel it should be important to consider what it's users think about literally anything didn't help much either and I think there's some heavy overlap between 4chan's /v/ community and places like Gamefaqs and the various internet PR gaming sites comment sections based on the type of language they use and the things they go on about like censorship and conservative talking point grievances a lot of the time now. It's all just pretty gross honestly. Like even I watch basically no anime anymore period I still play a lot of JRPG stuff and just want fully nothing to do with it's online audiences.

It's why I'm kind of glad I found this thread here because it's like cool I get to chat with people about a game I casually play without having to hear about all their baggage, insipid commentary, and bizarre theories, comparisons and contrasts 24/7. The fact that far too often they really have no idea what the gently caress they are talking about, have an incredibly limited knowledge and awareness of the history, trends and traditions of the hobbies they tend to talk about, for how much they THINK they know, is a bridge too far for me to cross in terms of engaging in conversation anyway. Obviously, and this is the ultimate sticking point for me since everyone has to start somewhere, they already think they know all the answers and have nothing to learn or ever re-consider anyway so what's the point in trying to have a conversation with any of them about anything?

Maybe it's social media or maybe it's me in particular, but I can never recall being like that is a teenager or during my own peak weeb phase. I wanted to like...know about these things (especially the Gundam franchise lol), there origins and influences (even if I had to track it back to the 60's or 70's) for real and get it right and never felt threatened by the idea that I didn't have something completely right and had to add to the body of knowledge and sourcing and god forbid adapt a little.

Tae posted:

Yeah...that. Just the fully and completely not knowing what the gently caress they are even talking about or how to compare and contrast things properly. Sometimes, and I swear this is true it's not as simple as black and white, good or bad, yes or no, have or have not. Sometimes you may even have to go down a list of things and list pluses or minutes and do actual loving analysis in order to make a point and have it stick. At least you used too.

Like it's actually somewhat complicated in this case because like you have to consider things like Genshin Impact has a pity system so your working towards a guarantee. FEH does not, but at the same time your getting more rolls in theory, so depending on your luck you may get a couple 5 stars....but let's be honest you probably won't. Likewise depending on where you are in your pity you probably won't get anything from 10 rolls in GI, but it'll put you that much closer towards a guaranteed if you play your cards right for nothing, so in a way there's de-facto convertible value though, whereas FEH's system is more like being at the casino and the house comping you with a free set of tokens for your extended patronage of the slot machines. Or who knows possible your in the high pity rates and that's your free 5 star right there and you didn't have to do poo poo for it. It really all depends, but with the limited thinking people are willing to put into considering much of anything there's no way any of this paragraph entered the thought process for most.

Genshin also has a much wider appeal than other gacha games (since it has actual gameplay with more than just jpeg collecting and autobattling), so there's a big portion of the playerbase who have never played a gacha game before and are discovering for the first time all the exploitative and rng mechanics in the genre (and then complaining about them).

Your definitely not wrong, like the whole Amazon Prime codes thing is a bit of a joke in terms of the value of the stuff being given (really anything the game classifies as lower than a 4 star item is dubious value and I know for a fact that the game considers primogem stock a 5 star item which yeah seems about right honestly in terms of rarity and utility) and in general the game does not hand out a lot of primogems, but again because, and only because there is a pity system is it actually possible to assign something resembling clear value to them like 11,200~14,400 primogems=1 5 star character. There's sort of more than one way to think about these things despite how people act about online.

I guess like I don't know at the end of the day I never have particularly high expectations for this sort of stuff and just shrug my shoulders about anything to do with 99% of the time. I also think I sort of made it clear that I just plain don't like the whole gacha system for acquiring characters period before even getting into the whole predatory nature of it that people like to go on about. I'm really not exaggerating or being facetious in the slightest, I just like...don't like it as a gaming system period, it's arbitrary and way too overused in Asian gaming nowadays. It also brings me literally zero excitement to even talk about (banner chat is so far down the list of conversation priorities with this game it barely registers to me, it's just something to be worked around on occasion) and it's not even something I think about at length typically so like I really just kind of don't give all that much of a poo poo about anything to do with it period other than the calculations I put into working the guarantee vis-a-vis primogems. It could also be that I'm just completely indifferent to internet hype culture entirely and tend to think of things that register as gambling in terms of pure game theory since again it's a system to be worked around for me at the end of the day.

I rarely talk about this sort of stuff, but here's my honest to god actual thought process about it. As an example I know people get super pumped to roll on some of these banners like day one the moment the update goes up and are chomping at the bit and doing the memes for it and stuff like "oh my god I gotta get it first so I can post it on my twitter profile as a weird status brag thing to my followers", whereas I really just don't give a loving poo poo when I roll and am looking purely at the date a banner ends so I can do my calculations and probabilities based on where I am at the guarantee and work back from the end date to see whether the primogem stock I figure I will have at the end will fit that guarantee threshold if I figure I want the character.

That's it, that's really about the sole extent to which I've thought about the Baal banner for example and I know this for a fact that I have the guarantee on that one (much like I did with Ayaka) so there's nothing else to consider about it really that wouldn't just be adding to what I see as white noise. I'll get her out of it when I feel like getting her sometime next month. God knows the banners last like 3 weeks or so anyway in this game so what's the rush even? Banners and rolling for poo poo in a gacha mechanic is not even close to the fun factor aspect for the game after all.

Radical posted:

last week-ish the GBF players all threw a fit about a lottery event so its kinda fun to watch people do the grass-is-greener thing

I also feel too that there's this tendency among gamers to work backwards from needing something to complain about as a social media upkeep thing and finding stuff from their hobbies to fit into that framework. AKA again "thing exists" so I will use it do the thing that I feel is required of me. I can scarcely remember the last time any sort of PR thing happened with a popular game or franchise that was any different really. Again though like here I am just kind of looking at the story trailer and what's coming down the line content wise and not really giving a poo poo about any of that stuff at all really, though I figure if that's all they showed during the livestream that would be what is going into the latest performance of "complaining shitheads" instead.

A podcaster I used to listen too but who has sadly since discontinued his programme used to also refer to this phenomenon as "pre-bitching" which I just still love as a term to this day because it feels so on point.
