Adding: Apparently Pacheco resigning today make the quorum threshold 99, which is what they reached today.

Well, I know this idea was in the general discourse, but looks like they are looking how to implement it, at least in north Texas.

The major concern here are that historically disadvantaged socioeconomic groups tend to be under vaccinated. TX is in relatively better shape than the other Southern states, we have a few hundred ICU beds (of course, in a state this size, if they run out in DFW, a hundred ICU beds in Amarillo aren't gonna help much) - Mississippi health officials reported today that they have less than 10 beds and 96 patients that need them.

Wouldn't triage based on vaccination status end up giving unvaccinated people priority because they get much more severe infections?

My dad went to the ER a couple days ago and it was awful. All the rooms were full, so the waiting room was full up with people who were in pain because you can't get painkillers until they get you into a room.

zoux
Apr 28, 2006

Triage is based on chance of survival, among other things, so all other factors being equal the vaccinated person would get preference

I teach in Killeen ISD, which is on this list, and we definitely haven't had a mask mandate since May. People at the source say that's what the double asterisks means (had a mandate but then rescinded it) which really should be more clearly communicated. KISD truly does not care at all.

It mostly depends on the situation you're doing triage. If you just have two dudes you typically take the one whose injuries require the most immediate attention. If you have 200 you start prioritizing your attention on those that have reasonable odds of being saved.

In the first situation the antivaxxer will likely have more severe symptoms and be seen first while the vaccinated dude sits tight because they're not likely to die if without care for a bit. In the second, they're probably poo poo out of luck because resources are going to the patients more likely to survive with treatment.

Yeah they didn't drop poo poo. I'm sure Abbott would be perfectly fine with SCOTX deciding in favor of the school districts so that we could get mitigation measures in place while he gets to preserve his right-wing bona fides, but it's gonna have to get much worse before he'll think about voluntarily redoing his own executive order. Paxton's even loonier, I don't know what it'd take to get him to drop his office's lawsuits willingly.

Anyway, this morning I learned that the Walgreens near my house helpfully has at-home rapid COVID tests on a display rack by the front door, but it's already running low, so all you parents with school-age kids grab your test kits while you can.

I'm seeing that they're questioning whether or not that quorum was actually real - several members marked as present didn't actually seem to be there. So maybe they're expecting quorum to break again?

Yeah but you know how that poo poo works, they tell the clerk they're absent but they don't want to sit there on the floor for hours so they gently caress off to the Cloak Room or whatever. It is utterly standard operating procedure. If it's such an issue, send someone back to move for a quorum call. Of course that would add one to the total.

Yeah, I can't tell if it was that they just weren't at their desk to vote, or straight up weren't there at all - because Craddick had been reported earlier having taken his voting key and being absent. One is very different from the other, but the tweets aren't super clear what they're accusing. I do think ghost voting is hypocritical if you're waging a war against voter fraud, but I also recognize it as a necessity because legislators need to leave their desks for various critical reasons.
