In Florida, yeah. Last year the state gave the schools a provision to pivot to remote learning if they had a certain level of absenteeism due to teachers & students being quarantined but the state didn't bother re-upping that this year so if the schools want to close down for a day now they have to use up one of their ten available "inclement weather" days, or figure out a way around quarantine

Their belief that they’re special is why they’re at especially high risk :coronatoot:

It’s not just the rich thing, it’s that they bought into the Open Biden rhetoric that the vaccines are a miracle solution to the problem. (I don’t know if everyone will even be vaccinated, by the way.) The degree to which health and government authorities have failed us is at levels typically seen in Greek/Roman/Shakespearean tragedies. Basically everyone still thinks that six feet = ok even though that was only sometimes true for droplets, but SARS-CoV-2 is aerosolized, and delta’s infectiousness dunks on the wild type strain, etc etc

There is a 100% chance that a lot of conservatives in that community opened their taps to full flow out of oppositional defiance. These people basically need reverse psychology to trick them into doing the right thing. Saying "no" to being vaxxed, to not wearing a mask, avoiding doing anything responsible for their community makes them feel powerful. But, "If you voted for Trump you can't get vaxxed" would have these people doing every trick they could think of to get a jab in order to think they got a win over the libs.

Also lol my company is now letting people work even if they're positive as long as they're asymptomatic (masks are mandatory for the infected).

Assuming it's accurate, that's a fair point. Some of them will be unvaccinated out of circumstance rather than ideology so maybe have a look at their Facebook page or see if they have an account on one of the fringe social media platforms that the nazis fled to

Going to my first football match in 17 months on Monday and while most of the precautions make a kind of sense (you have to show either NHS vaccination proof on the app or a text from the NHS with a negative test less than 48 hours old) they're

a) trivially easy to fake - there's literally no way they're going to bother going online to check the vaccination status so just waving a screenshot of anyone's status page will definitely be enough, and of course you can fake a negative home test by just scanning it in and saying "Nope, no covid here"
b) going to be abandoned after half an hour because the club have also decided to save a whole £20k or so by going to electronic ticketing which is going to cause absolute loving mayhem at the turnstiles on top of the already loving ridiculous queuing for (and arguing about) vaccination status and there's no way at all they're going to delay kickoff of a televised game
c) completely loving pointless because they're allowing people to go unmasked in eating and seating areas, which is *the entire loving stadium*.

Don't worry though, they've got a cunning plan to keep transmission inside the ground down - the Code of Conduct asks us to:

quote:

avoid[...] excessive shouting/singing/ celebrations as that increases the risk of transmission of COVID-19. You should avoid hugs, high-fives and any unnecessary close contact with people who are not known to you

I mean fortunately the London Stadium is already sterile enough to do surgery in but I just found that little snippet hilarious buried in all the guff about how much having a full crowd is going to lift the players and asking us all to do our part to cheer the team on.

I'll be honest I've never been more torn. I *know* it's going to be a shitshow but at the same time getting to this game is almost a physical requirement for me now, in a way that's probably impossible to explain to anyone who isn't in to football. I suppose I'll just have to cross my fingers and pray to AstraZeneca to do its stuff.

I have traveled (to see famil in a red list country) for 1.5 months since Jul, nearly month of it in states due to my own dumbness and even dumber UK travel advisory, came back, went to gigs, gallery openings and massive outdoor concerts almost the second I got cleared on Day 2 and now waiting a PCR test to be sent to my home while deep throating lateral flow swabs twice a day due to flu symptoms. No fever, cough or loss of taste (yet) mainly fatigue, mucus flow, headache (which all are also Covid symptoms) so a gamble of flu / cold or Covid 2: Electric Boogaloo despite being double AZ jabbed and having Covid in 2020 Christmas.

I mean, current me is low-key :ohdear: but past me probably had enough of a bunker mentality to cope with other problems emerged so probably would've done the same. I can only hope it's not Covid and I didn't spread around to people because London is full on suck&gently caress mode right now. A mask -probably- would not help you in a place with thousands of people lining up to get inside the stadium, and clearly wouldn't have helped me -much- in a drunken singalong with thousand people crammed together or a gallery in a basement with hundred other people.

I will resume whatever I was doing the moment I got cleared negative from the PCR (I still test daily) if I don't get permabanned. So, yeah, the best action imo, if you're incapable of missing this event, is test in the morning, mask up, sanitize hands and isolate yourself afterwards if for couple of days if that's possible. Or, like the rest of the people, go straight to the pub a do coke over the toilet reservoir.
