I have no doubt that it's the case in the US, though I haven't looked into it far enough to provide a name as well, (civil) libertarians and anti-establishmentarians have taken up the cause of ivermectin for reasons of "free speech", which is why you had Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald and most recently Jimmy Dore bringing it up - they want to Stick It To The Man maybe not so much because they believe in ivermectin but because the government and the liberal mainstream media is saying that you shouldn't

"the FDA is trampling on your rights" is mostly just because corporations want to get rid of the FDA so that food production gets deregulated you just also end up having to manufacture propaganda to gas up people into opposing the FDA on every single issue, including vaccines, because that's just good politics from a mobilization standpoint and then you do the thing long enough and you end up with people who just oppose the FDA on principle and forgot the underlying reason
