I'm assuming he'd have to make a apology to Sony TV executives if he hasn't already and have a tight leash on his social media but at this point, he's likely to be the guy just to end the drama.

He already did a public apology back when he was about to guest host (or maybe when he came on as consultant?) That was clearly because he was thinking about his future with Jeopardy.

Some of his "controversial" stuff was just some anti-trump stuff that is looking pretty innocuous these days. I remember lots of MAGA people left him bad book reviews when he made a Baron Trump joke once.

The wheelchair joke was the worst thing he said, but that's forgivable imo. Nothing compared to several of Richards' podcast comments.

I guess the Bean Dad stuff could come back to bite him, but that blew over pretty fast.

Really, NONE of the other guest hosts was available to put in another couple weeks? Perhaps some of the ones that only got a single week?

At least it's not Oz, but that isn't a high bar to clear.

The joke was mocking the Trump people claiming (lying) that Baron thought Kathy Griffin's decapitated Trump picture was real and was upset. But the MAGA folks acted like it was a joke at Baron's expense and Don Jr whined about but Ken got him pretty good.

The difference as I see it is that while everyone inevitably has some embarrassing, inappropriate thing in their past that can be dug up, not everyone demonstrates that they are no longer that person today. In Ken's case, I think it's really clear that those things just weren't seen as being super problematic back then. We changed as a culture, and he has kept pace with that and changed as well.

Richards, on the other hand, is clearly the same person he was when he hosted that podcast and you get the general vibe from those who've worked with him more recently that this hasn't changed.

This has been my primary point all along, especially in defending Burton. You can teach someone to be a better host from a technical perspective, most of them just naturally settle into it after just a few games and it's a matter of developing fluency and shaking off nerves. Ken started off a little rough and by his second week was really smooth.

But if you just don't have any personality and don't bring anything to the role, that's not something a few more days on set is going to fix.

Part of it, to be honest, is also capturing a little of Alex's aura of unabashed pro-intellectualism. You always felt like if he wanted to he could hand over the reins to a guest host and step up to a podium and wipe the floor with 90% of the contestants. It made his snark about wrong answers and triple stumpers endearing. With Ken, you absolutely know for a fact that he could probably destroy you and probably isn't even looking at the clue sheet most of the time. You don't get any of those really unfunny attempts at editorializing after clues just to say there was no way they would have known that or anything else that hints at that incredibly American pride in not knowing things.

Still rooting for Burton, but Ken does feel like a natural heir to the podium and did a fine job in his guest weeks.

FWIW I think the jokes about not knowing something are meant to make the host seem personable and not take some of the embarrassment off of the contestants who didn't get it rather than as a badge of pride that they don't know something.

ken's tweet about everyone who saw the new star wars dying was very funny, and i think people don't talk about that one enough. it was also in poor taste and shouldn't have been made.

that said, i'm... fine with ken holding the position full time. he's very capable and i enjoyed watching him. he's not my first choice, but he's also not my last choice. He wants it and he's going to do a good job. lots of other people would probably also do a good job with six weeks of practice and six months of playing time plus whatever he did as a Special Consultant.

Yeah, I honestly kind of get they had to get someone last min, so I can accept 3 weeks of Mayim.

That said, I donno if I can watch or not. Richards being a poo poo show May make me more ok with her, but she still isn’t great.

Hopefully long term they either do ken, or just keep doing guests hosts as the new show gimmick.

The thing about Ken is yeah he has some questionable old tweets. He also doesn’t have multiple lawsuits about the same topic his tweets are about. He has the J! resume. Richards didn’t. He has been the face of J! after Alex for the past 15 years. Richards hasnt. He was a good guest host. Richards wasn’t. And he didn’t pick himself to do the job.

I think all of those things need to be taken together, which is also why IMO there won’t be nearly as much backlash to Ken.

I guess I can live with Blossom for 3 weeks, as long as they don’t keep airing those brain pill ads she hawks. But I am absolutely satisfied if Ken gets the job. The most “controversial” stuff I remember him doing is anti-MAGA tweets and his association with Bean Dad, but that’s about it; I haven’t been paying much attention to his Twitter at all since I’m not on much Social Media anymore and never actually had a Twitter account. If the conservatives take his appointment as a reason to stop watching the show, all I’ll say is good riddance.

It’s amazing, but not surprising, that the same execs that did the bare minimum and said “oh sure, have Mike do it” are now just trying have her do it versus look harder at more candidates. For one of the most desired jobs on television.

Lots of Americans have terrible taste, make terrible decisions and have no idea how to do critical thinking, I’m gonna bet a bunch of them watch jeopardy, and probably also make up the majority of jeopardy’s viewership.

Bialik is legitimately a good host. Her disgusting me too editorial and her incredibly annoying wishy washy comments on Israel are infinitely more disqualifying to me than any of Jennings’s dumbass tweets. I’d prefer her to not be there, but in a vacuum she was fine as the host. I’ll be huffy about it but wouldn’t stop watching over her.

But I feel like with the insider information about Jennings yesterday that Sony is also just feeding the media stories and letting them pre-vet people.

I wish that PBS somehow just had Jeopardy.

She and Dr. Oz were definitely both I'm not watching the show choices because I didn't think Richards was going to get the job due to the lie about being a last minute replacement due to scheduling and I didn't think either one had a snowball's chance in hell of being picked for anything. They have a chance to make it right by picking Jennings and if they gently caress it up again then lol

Bialik is better than Oz (after the Richards debacle I half expected them to make another boneheaded choice like that), but it still feels like they're just not listening. At all. Almost everyone has said from the beginning that Ken was one of the best choices, and for reasons I don't quite get they seem ready to pass him over. I really don't get it.

TBBT was on CBS albeit owned by WB (AT&T for now). CBS distributes Jeopardy! Don't think in terms of merit because Sony doesn't.
