I thought we were just going to get some wacky Mephisto One More Day thing. I guess it is kind of like that, but no Mephisto.

Also One More Day makes no sense and Aunt May looked like a walking skeleton in the 60s how is she still alive in the original timeline?!

MCU Strange is absolutely the type of dude to promise Wong that *he* won't cast the spell, but then coincidentally show Peter the special spellcasting room in the basement of the Sanctum where if Peter says just the right words that happen to be laid out in this book over here while Strange just happens to set up some sort of magical ritual that could affect the multiverse as part of his daily duties or whatever in the same room then Peter could get his request no harm no foul.

Of course Parker starts to freak out and ramble all kinds of caveats or whatever into the spell and oops, now he's erased the memory of everyone in the MCU universe about who Spider-man is at the cost of bringing to the MCU all the biggest villains who have a special fixation on Peter Parker and want to put his head in a toilet.

Doctor Strange canonically has a "gently caress around and find out" attitude to things. Being an arrogant diva was how he was introduced to the MCU, and considering he's only had one (1) solo movie so far, he's nowhere close to fully shaking off that over-abundance of self-assurance. Especially after he just helped save half the universe which he's probably feeling pretty smug about. Of course he'd want to help out the kid he fought with on both Titan and in the final battle, and of course he's capable of loving it up because he's not yet fully gotten over himself.

The pile o' villains is a once in a cinematic lifetime chance to both speedrun the origins of a ton of spidey foes into one film, as well as being a nostalgia fest thanks to a "welp, multiverse" handwave. I'm not even a big fan of the old Raimi movies, but even I'm getting a big kick out of the idea of throwing loving *everything* into this film to make it an insane event of a film. Especially after the Spider-Man Holiday Special feel of Far From Home which was very much just treading water.

There's still so many good unused villains left to draw on for future films. Only Batman has a rogue's gallery with the depth of Spidey's. I'd hope the next one brings back Kingpin as he needs an outing on the big screen.

I’m simply shocked at how uninspiring and unexciting a trailer for a movie that’s supposed to bring together all these old beloved franchise figures is. I guess they’re trying to save some surprises, which I get. But everything feels….lifeless.

It’s like the Eternals trailer. I can’t imagine getting hyped for either of these. Maybe I’m tapped out of Marvel movies, or maybe they’re running out of energy.

This shit's about to go off.
I really wish we could just get a few Spidey movies that are a bit more ground level and character focused like the Raimi ones without so many MCU tie ins, but I think that ship has probably sailed. The first two Holland movies were so closely tied to Iron Man and didn’t really let the character breathe on his own. And I’m even a person who really enjoys the whole MCU thing, but Spidey is my favorite and it’s a bit of a drag to now have him bogged down with a bunch of multiverse nonsense. Leave the multiverse to dr strange and scarlet witch or whatever and leave Spidey out of it, at least until the big team up movie.

I think people's nostalgia are blinding them to the fact that the Spider-Man franchise is a perfect example of how just throwing a shitload of villains in one movie is a recipe for disaster.

The only good parts about the MCU Spidermans were their villains, but the nostalgiabating in that trailer does nothing for me.

Also, not for nothing, but Tom Holland's finally aging out of being able to play a highschool kid.

Mostly 3 but remember how we got the Rhino for a completely useless cameo in Amazing? Or Green Goblin in Amazing 2?

EDIT: Speaking of Holland, lol at people pointing out that finally there was a Spider-Man leak that wasn't his fault.

Rhino and GG were both in the TASM2. First movie was just Lizard. Other than the lovely tease of an action scene we never get to see at the end, which had nothing to do with Rhino being a classic villain, the problems of TASM2 weren't about the number of villains. And the number was 2! Alexei/Rhino was just one action scene at the start to set up Spider-Man saving Max.

Man, the minor key cover of pop songs just has to stop. It should’ve started and ended with The Social Network trailer, which perfected it.

I’ll see the movie regardless because Jackie was great.

Edit: oh I see the director upgraded from Mica Levi to Jonny Greenwood for the score. Holy moly. Makes it all the funnier than the trailer is nodding at the “Creep” cover

It's an exciting concept in general. I guess it won't stay novel for long since Keaton Batman is supposed to show up soon but the idea of characters from different adaptations of the same material interacting in one movie is pretty cool. I don't know how many times it's been done before (Godzilla Final Wars comes to mind) but it's still pretty fresh for superhero movies. At least to the extent they're doing it. I guess Hugh Jackman being in the First Class series of movies might fit but those were supposed to be prequels and he was only a cameo.

I agree it looks good. I just wish it wasn't almost 3 hours long, and I miss the Bond movies not having to be so connected. Spectre pissed me off, with it's whole, "I am the author of all of your pain," and this seems like it may be heading towards more of that.

But Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie (which itself was 2h 25m), along with From Russia With Love. So I'm hoping for a good movie.

Every Craig movie has been chasing a trend (although this is true for much of the series starting with Roger Moore). Casino Royale was a gritty reboot like Batman Begins, Quantum of Solace took the shaky cam from the Bourne series, Skyfall was very Dark Knight inspired and Spectre decided it wanted to be the MCU. I don't think the new movie really had a choice but to wrap it all up and I hope they go back to standalone films next time.
