Jagmeet is gonna be at The Forks this afternoon for some sort of announcement. Might go listen to him tell us how he's also going to somehow make housing more affordable without crashing the market.

He won't, housing must never go down or the entire house of cards goes with it

Everyone will be able to afford houses when the market crashes... as long as they're lucky enough to hold on to their jobs.

Kinda fun watching society paint itself into a corner when it comes to the economy while simultaneously doing the same with covid going endemic and climate change locking in at a point where millions, possibly billions, are going to be displaced and probably die within our lifetime.

Such amazing content to behold.

I'm hoping he's going to push for government-built housing that'll only be available to people who do not currently own a home if the NDP are elected. I'm also hoping he'll actually announce a candidate for South Winnipeg, because right now my options are Liberal or Conservative (insert that "It's the same picture" meme here).

Oh poo poo y'all, for those who were following my story of a dipshit chud manager who went on a rampage during Canada day, there was a lovely outcome.

Tldr: She got canned.

Within a week HR came by and interviewed everyone, other things happened (I could go further if anyone is interested), she was sent home one day and we were all told "she is taking some time off". Took over a month for us to know what was happening for sure, but found out recently she got dismissed from the company. Everyone is happier, even the employees who didn't have much direct beef with her. I've had several people from other businesses in the area be happy to hear she's gone lol. The people who we share a loading dock with said we should throw a party.

My favourite part is the new manager is a 21 year old Indian guy (who's running the store way better), and she would be so mad about that.

Trash Boss Part 1:

Fashionable Jorts posted:

So I need an outsiders view on this, I work a liquor store, and my manager is pretty trash. Openly racist: told me that if two or more Native people enter the store "just start calling the cops", and when the residential school bodies started hitting the news, she said (to the Native lady who works here) that people need to get over it, it's in the past. Fully supported trump, frequently shits on the Indian people who own and operate the nearby liquor stores.

Now, the thing I'm wondering about is this year the store is going hard on decorating for Canada day, at her request and expense. She's bought tons of big flags and stickers (last year I think we had one three foot flag up for Canada day weekend), put a bunch of Canadian products on display, and has a big "_ Days Until Canada Day" window painting that shes been updating for four days now.

Am I reading into this too much? Because it feels to me like this extra "patriotism" is coming across at best tone-deaf due to recent events, at worst a gigantic middle finger.

Part 2:

Fashionable Jorts posted:

So update on this, my coworker overheard her say she wanted to keep the massive flags up forever, because she liked the look of it. Which is pretty weird, stores don't really have Canada flags up in them, yet alone four in a relatively small building.

The coworker and I decided that about an hour before closing the store on July 1, we would "help out" and take down all of the decorations. Every banner, every streamer, the giant flags, spent half an hour wiping the hand-written stuff on the windows, and packed it all up in a box and tossed it in storage.

Manager opened this morning, my cowoker in at noon. She sent me a text (we've worked together for 6+ months and have sent each other a total of 4 texts before today) saying that the manager was pissed. Miserable and giving the cold shoulder. When I came in for my shift today, the manager said like 2 sentences to me and had someone else tell me what our tasks were today.

I guess she was extremely invested in keeping these drat flags up forever, and I wonder how long it'll take for her to get over this.

Part 3:
So I emailed HR about her, they called me back and I had a half hour chat with them, and filled out a five-page email about all of the things that happened. I was really worried not much would come of it, since my memory is trash so I couldn't give any times or dates on what was going on.

But within a week, they came in and took every single employee to the back to have individual interviews (which we all signed non-disclosure agreements, lol). Even the lady who had only worked here for like 2 weeks had things to say, which is pretty indicative.

I was relieved that HR was taking this serious, but unsure what would happen. Both me and the coworker in part 2 (I'll call her Jane for anonymity's sake)told the area manager that we cannot work at this location if the store manager is still here - either she goes or we both do.

One weekend, someone called in sick on a closing shift, so only the new lady who doesn't know how to close was working, and the only person that could come in was the manager. Manager shows up in her regular clothes, no hint at uniform, and brings her fuckin dog. The dog proceeds to piss on the floor twice in the five hours, and she only cleans up one spot.

So after the dog piss incident, coworker Jane sent an email to HR to complain about how inappropriate this was. HR shows up a few days later, checks the security footage, and leaves. Manager then comes in after work to use the security camera to snoop on what HR was doing. I tell HR she did that (this might have been important - we all sign a paper before getting access to the cameras that say we are legally prohibited from using them for any reason other than criminal investigation).

About a week or so later, I come in to find that HR is currently having a conversation in the office with manager. An entire hour later, they escort her to the front, she leaves. They tell us "she's taking some time off". For the next week or so we have no manager at all, then a temp manager who splits his time between this location and his other store. About two weeks ago it was made official that he's now the full time manager of this store, and she is no longer employed by the company.

I should have complained about her sooner, but this really was a perfect storm. Because even if they had wanted to fire her for the things I had typed in the five-page email, its essentially my word vs. hers, and its likely she just would've had a verbal warning or whatever. But having proof that she broke company policy by bringing her animal in, and using the security cameras without cause gave them a concrete reason to dismiss her.

My eye has now stopped twitching.

While I'm sure this is marginally better than Trudeau's plan, it's still not addressing the issue of "PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD HOUSING IN THE FIRST PLACE". It's great that I can get a rebate on a house, if I manage to find one that A) I can save up a down payment on a mortgage before the prices escalate and B)That my bid isn't just immediately outbid, cash in hand, by parasiteslandlords and parasite hivesrental agencies.
