Sorry if this has been asked, I've been avoiding the thread till I've beaten the game, but I gotta pop in to ask - how do you (optional quest spoiler) get to the top of the falls to get a mushroom for Lili? Game warned me to wrap up any unfinished business so I want to do this now. I can't figure it out.

edit: I still don't have the projection ability so if it's about that then I can just press on for now.

Not on top, behind. Use time slow on logs while you're riding them up. It's kinda finicky and annoying.

Been binging this game non-stop after work for the last two days and just finished it, and I have to say

Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed. It's not a bad game, but I feel it doesn't hold a candle to the first game at all, at least as far as the writing and overall narrative design of the levels and the overarching story goes. The absurd and abstract nature of the mental stages have obviously benefitted greatly from the 15+ years of technological advances since the first one, but that and the gameplay are honestly the only parts I feel I can say is better. The writing, for me, just.... isn't there. (Though I will admit a lot of the incidental dialogue you can have with people is pretty decent, but by gods there's a lot of it)

(Major spoilers incoming)
I wasn't really that big of a fan of most of the new stages (Loboto and Bob's are probably my favourites, even though the boss of the latter was kinda meh), and even the ones I didn't mind had some rather nasty warts (the sidescroller platforming segments in the first stage where you have to wait until some shadows in the background explains the backstory of the character). Though I had high hopes for the later stages after doing Bob's first, the library ended up earning the dubious honor of being my new least favourite stage across both games, and right after came EXPOSITION CITY. Seriously, Nicks stage has to be the most bored I've been in this game to date. There was nothing fun about that stage. Then there was the end boss and rather anticlimatic ending fight (was I just supposed to spam mental blast on her the whole time)?

All in all, just kinda disappointed. I've played through the original recently, so I feel it's not just rose-tinted goggles. I am fairly certain when I say that I feel that the first has this one beat both in writing and thematic design for the mental levels. I'm glad they improved on the platforming and controls, but I found most of the outdoor exploration to be kinda dull, and that's honestly where most of the actual platforming seems to take place.
In the end, it's not a bad game, just couldn't live up to my expectations I guess.

Question for those who've gotten past this point; I'm at the third you-know-what level, but was warned about finishing up unfinished business first. But I've still got one power left to get, and I still can't get through the mail-slot doors which I assume is related. Should I be concerned about picking up everything I can now, or will I come back eventually to gather what's left?

I assume I'll be able to return for those doors, but it's weird to get a warning message at this point if so.

Once you clean up the third fragment of Ford you get moved into a new hub area, wherein you can get the projection power that lets you do mail slots and stuff. You'll be able to come back to the Motherlobe later.

finished the game and have to say that (spoilers for late-game level) bob zanatto's level is maybe the most emotionally owned I've been by a video game.

content for that level spoilers: the whole vibe of the level, with the seed bob's fake breezey personalities and the moth's deal just really resonated with my experience in dealing with people who had alcoholic parents or who were going through it themselves. the visual and audio design really came together. the third leg holding a sword of damocles over your head as you feel absolutely certain that bob's going to ruin his chance at happiness... and he doesn't. just hit me hard.

Soooooo I mostly really enjoyed my time with this xcept for a few artifacts that survived from the first game, like the loving levitation ball's goddamn physics, but maaaan some of the level execution is intensely frustrating.
The cooking show level is possibly one of the most frustrating things since the goddamn Meat Circus, and it made me quit playing. Like did they need quite so much poo poo that damages you all over the place, it seems pretty spiteful and makes something already hard from the crazy tight timer into a bad time.
I think I'm giving this one a rest until I feel way less annoyed at that particular thing.

That was my favorite level in the whole game, easily. Also, the timer is completely optional, you can apparently (e: maybe not) 100% the game without ever beating the timers.

Microsoft is losing money on game pass. Even if the metrics show that activity picked up due to Psychonauts 2, it would still be fundamentally better to show support for them by actually purchasing the game. That's supposed to be the advertised pipeline. You play a game you wouldn't otherwise play, enjoy the game, realize you like it enough to buy it, and you buy it. That's what Microsoft is expecting with Game Pass.

I know Microsoft is going through this weird phase where everybody thinks they are acting as your cool uncle since Phil Spencer is extremely good at PR, but I'll still be waiting with held breath to make sure that Double Fine isn't just working on Fable or Halo content in the future.

Also it's really up to you, you wanted to talk about how to support the company and I gave you an option :)

I'm curious now, a newly released game going on game pass is actually bad for it, right? I'm not sure how much they benefit by giving a 60 dollar game out for basically free because I don't imagine the majority of game pass owners would go on to buy it afterwards.

I’d guess MS is going to determine the success of this game party by how many gamepass subscriptions it brings in. To some degree worrying about sales of this game is like fretting over theatrical ticket sales of a Netflix Original movie.

Not sure if this your spoiler is true considering you need to beat the last timer to get a luggage tag, and the other two get you brain halves. I don't know what counts as 100% but the game doesn't count the stage as cleared (with a green checkmark on the level list) without them.

So far this game is much funnier than the original, I think. Only beat the Casino level, but holy poo poo, the Maternity, Whale, and some other stuff made me laugh.
Also, it seems like they're making Ford into more of a character which I appreciate, as he seemed a bit lolrandomy in the original.

My biggest problem so far was probably the first boss, because holy poo poo the dialogue was just playing NON-STOP. Every line overlapped one another, and it was just obnoxious.

I didn't try it myself, but a guide I was looking at to find the last scavenger items said that if you brain tumbler back in after completing the mind, all of the prizes are open whether or not you beat the timers. Sounded plausible to me since a lot of the brain interactions are off when you go back to old ones.
