It's funny how people always retroactively downplay hurricanes. Everyone talks about Laura like it was a big nothing burger even though it killed 30 people in LA and caused like 20 billion dollars worth of damage despite massive statewide preparations. Ida is going to hit areas that are still wrecked from it a year later. But it's fine nobody should do anything or worry

Paradoxish posted:Katrina made landfall as a category 3 with wind speeds about on par with current predictions for Ida. it weakened as its outer bands hit land. same thing will happen. a cat 5 going to a cat 3, this one will be a cat 2 at best. you seem to not understand that measuring the eye wall speed at landfall isn't the same thing as what people experience as it comes ashore

I haven't seen much about the expected storm surge. What're the estimates? Usually the news coverage loves talking about that and for one hitting a city below sea level, seems pertinent.

I'm prob a bit late on this one, but I'm willing to host evacuating goons. I've got space, and both housemate and I just got over the rona (*we shouldn't be able to spread it to you/yours, and I'm not worried about yall). I'm located in Memphis. PM me if that'd be helpful for you. Stay safe, goons.
