so, playing with the idea

upper strata interest groups behaving like dwarf fortress aristocrat assholes, threatening to withdraw support or outright opposition because you are not going after precious timber like ebony, coromandel, blackwood or bloodwood in Africa and/or Latin America for their furniture

holy poo poo if works more or less like that it would be the best motivator to do an imperialism in a strategy game I think?

edit: this would also make revolutionary socialism the Moral Choice, ofc

Huh I thought the granularity of the 'stack of coins' iconography was limited to color, ie copper/silver/gold. But the tea has like two more coins in the left hand stack than the others. I don't think the at-a-glance readability there is the best.

If it has been evident in past dev diaries I haven't noticed it which kinda reinforces my point? :v:

This dev diary is amazing, I love the direction this game is going.

Making pop needs able to be met by different goods and the pops making their own economic decisions as to how to best meet those needs is absolutely fantastic.

Also, I wonder if the need for "heating" is seasonal or tied to geography in any way. Like, all else being equal, does a pop in Havana have the same heating needs as a pop in Stockholm?

Other PDX games account for weather (EU4 and HoI4) so I imagine V3 will.

In V2 you had Primary Cultures and accepted cultures, everyone else was considered discriminated against. You had absolutely no ability to change those except with pre-scripted events to add new ones or change your country. So basically it'd be really, really hard not to be an improvement over that.

In eu4 you have unaccepted cultures which are less good then your ones (there's a tiered system). You can genocide them though to get full value from a province.

TwoQuestions

In EU4 there's also a general tolerance of nonaccepted cultures and faiths, the Ottomans have a good bit and the Spaniards don't if memory serves.

EU4 also allows you to spend monarch points to make cultures accepted if they make up a certain portion of your territory, instead of trying to convert everywhere to your primary culture. I feel like Victoria 3 may end up with something similar.

It takes long enough (decades if not over a century for high dev provinces) that you can probably easily interpret it as the people assimilating into your culture. Ala the Francization that occurred to transform France along Parisian lines around 1850.
