Only small parts of it are dedicated to other things, and the vast majority of it is the internal politics that lead to the declaration of war and the negotiation of peace. It ends up focusing more on the atrocities USA committed against Japan than whatever Japan might have done, which the book doesn't really touch on. I mean it's a good book, and it had some things and details that I never heard, but it wasn't really what I was looking for.

Someone had a more elaborate post about it here but the general overview is that there was a lot of fighting in the communist party. The CPI (M) is the party in charge of kerala and they have several members in lesser government positions across India. The CPI (M-L) was initially created because there a lot of disillusionment between the peasant and lower caste members of the CPI (M). The CPI (M-L) eventually dissolved into 2ish organizations. The CPI (Maoist) who who declared a people's war in the region of Naxalbari and the CPI (ML) Liberation. There is also a communist party fraction that split from the CPI (M) in west bengal although I don't remember their name, it might have been the CPI (ML) Red Star.
