When I was a young'n I had a small 10 inch by maybe 1.5 ft cast iron hibachi grill I found at a yard sale. It was awesome for kebabs or food for one person. I divested of all my stuff before traveling for a year, though. I miss that little thing. Do such things still exist? I have never seen such a tiny grill elsewhere.

Sounds like exactly the right size to be the Lodge "Sportsman's Grill". I have heard rumors that Lodge discontinued it though (possibly to replace it with a revised model next year).

Does it need to be cast iron? There are a lot of steel ones which seem like they would be a lot easier to transport.

You could also try one of these Japanese style ceramic ones although they have bad reviews from people who left them outside: https://www.amazon.com/Fire-Sense-Large-Yakatori-Charcoal/dp/B003601SRA

Doesn't need to be cast iron, but it was neat, and held heat really well. I have a smoker and a Webber grill, realistically I don't need one. Should probably try to get one of those Lodge grill pans for the gas stove.

I’m really confused is this canned fish seriously 25-40 dollars a can? What’s with the crazy prices on their website it’s like a 120 dollars for a pack of 3, 4 ounce cans of salmon.

It's not. Those 25-40 dollar fish items are fully cooked and seasoned, ready to eat. The 40 dollar one is not a 4 ounce can of salmon, it's a 16 ounce this

Yeah that was super weird. I googled the company and all of the links that came up made it appear that all of their cans of fish were like 50 dollars each. Still pricey as hell, but I thought it was some ridiculous luxury food for super rich people with more money than sense for a minute.

Well, given that it's Patagonia, I feel like the price point they're looking at is "willing to splurge on better food for my camping trip"

I mean mussels are one of those things I'm prepared to spend a lot of money on, were they just lovely or? A normal moules-frites I'd expect to pay around $25-30 for.

Mussels are like $6/lb and are one of the easiest and fastest things on the planet to cook at home. I get that restaurants charge $30 but it's still absolute robbery.

They're just canned mussels. There's absolutely nothing about that can that's worth the $11.21 I paid. They weren't better than the Matiz that I usually buy for $6 a can. They weren't uniform in size and the sauce was just okay. My husband compared them to Polar but I think he was just being sassy because he was mad about how much we paid to be thoroughly whelmed.

This is highly location dependent. Mussels usually can't even be found here, and they'll be upwards of $20/pound when they are.

That blows my mind, aren't you in Vegas? I'd always figured they'd have a good amount of good seafood distributors if only because of the casinos.

Is there a trick to getting things to not stick to silicone molds? I got a little egg steamer a while back, and when it was new the eggs just plopped right out, even without oil. Now bits of egg stick in there and most of the time the patty breaks in half when getting it out, even if I rub it with a bit of oil. very annoying.

The ability of a casino to get absolutely anything at anytime for the price they're willing to pay does not reflect on the ability of the average consumer to do the same. I mean, unless the average consumer wants to order 1500 pounds of mussels.

Since the discussion was originally in relation to canned mussels, I imagine they can avoid canning them in a place where they're expensive.

Fair play, I just kind of figured it was enough of a major stop for seafood it would be available. Weird.

Any juicer recommendations? Specifically, for lemons?

For health reasons, I need to get at least 5oz (~2/3 cup) of lemon juice in my water per day. I prefer to have fresh lemon juice rather than concentrate or whatever the gently caress is in those fake lemon/lime things at the grocery store. Unfortunately I find them to be a huge pain to cut up and juice, and would rather just have a big ol' batch of the juice to squirt out each day. Plus, we might be going back into the office soon, and I need something portable to carry lemon juice with me.

Something that makes it simple and easy to juice the poo poo out of a bunch of lemons would be ideal, and also something efficient that gets as much juice as possible, especially since I'm gonna need something like 35oz of lemon juice each week.

EDIT: Any other ideas on how to get 35oz of lemon juice per week are also appreciated. :v:

Back in my kitchen days, something like this was my go-to for juicing an entire box of citrus as fast as possible.

Also, at least w/ the lemons I get, 4-5oz is like 2 lemons. I would prob just use something like this:

This style is my preference for citrus. Quick and extracts a lot of juice. I’ve even experimented with using a reamer type of juicer after I pressed them with one of these, and the amount of juice was negligible. You can process a lot of fruit in a short amount of time with one of these. I don’t actually know which one I have, but this is one of the less expensive offerings on Amazon.

I have a no-name citrus press I swear by. Any time I'm juicing more than 1 Tbsp I bust it out. The parts that get juicy all are dishwasher safe.

Looks like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01IW0MG2O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PJFNRQCEWSJ40Y272GZ3 but I'd check ReviewMeta.com to find one with legit reviews. The one I have is wearing out a bit in the very top bushing (that holds the plunger vertical) so maybe one with a higher price tag will be a better material. Mine still works but I need two hands - 1 go pull it back into vertical while the other plunges. Not annoying enough to buy a new one but if you are doing 3 lemons every day it could be.

Unfortunately this is the rare thing that's more expensive at a local restaurant supply store, as those are built for an order of magnitude more usage than even your case.

E: glad to be beaten by those who agree!

Calcium oxalate kidney stones. Citric acid inhibits their growth. I've got potassium citrate supplements, and I've got something like 490 citrate right now, but I've been advised to still try and get 5oz of lemon juice per day. (I agree, it's a bit overkill, especially given that I'm within normal range for women my age with the pills.)

That press looks insane :shittypop: but effective! Hell yeah, I'll add it to the list. Thanks!

Yeah no I don't buy into that bullshit. I also think 35oz is a bit overkill, even without the pills. But, hey, I'm not the doctor...and I'm not gonna complain about it as long as I can make it easy.
