Sonic 2 on Master System is a very different beast that has its own gimmicks and deserves some respect.

None of the boss acts in Sonic 2 GG had rings in them, but the first level was pretty infamous because the screen was so zoomed in that you couldn't see Robotnik at the top and it was really hard to dodge the balls. Green Hills Zone had the same issue where the boss arena was much smaller than in the Master System version making it harder to dodge the boss.

I know similar things happened with Animal Crossing, Pokemon, and 3D All Stars, but it's actually not piracy in this case. Though I have no idea if a day 1 patch would fix all that.

its fine if the carts ship so broken the game displays insane glitchesh that cover the entire screen. Theres A Patch.

Yeah, the slope had weird momentum if you slide at all, and the bouncing ball things had what I think was rng on which pattern they bounced in. So sometimes you'd just get the ones that are off screen way too high to see, and good luck. Also, right before that, there's a part where Robotnik grabs you before you hit an instant death lava pit for some reason, and drops you into the boss fight. And I had a handful of times where he just didn't feel like showing up, and Sonic would just die in the lava.

I was willing to go day-one into a good port of a decent 3D Sonic but by all accounts the port isn't as good as the Wii original if it's not straight up bugged out. Also there's too many red flags here: Unusual porting circumstances, inexperienced porting house, rush to release despite obvious concerns, and a pre-release sale price (although maybe just Amazon) as a mea culpa. Still a bad game, but fine after the hang glider level. And no other boss killed me because of the boss not spawning. The boar guy and the seal that I sort of remember were fine.
