Also the inventory menu that shows your character at the same time (I know you can kind of do this in DS3 but not as well) and has plain fucken words for using multiple items at once.

Edit: the spices! Buffs for all the elements, all the bombs...

DS2 really felt like they wanted to let people have a million options and I loved it

I think the range of PvP options in the covenants is pretty good, though having to quit and rejoin them to play them is annoying.

Also, having sets change depending on gender is annoying. I like the Black Witches set but you only get the lacey pantaloons when you're male. Otherwise it's high heels and a short skirt.

The powerstancing is fun - I actually managed to catch someone with the Warped Sword double spin last night, which was nice.

Yeah, the switch between Majula and Heide's sounds like the path you haven't handled yet from your posts.

And if you're not sure where to go once you reach the end of that path (which is several zones and bosses away), you'll then head back to the bonfire at the forked path where one of the forks led to the woods with the invisible guys, and investigate the other paths from there.

Huntsmans copse, build up 26k souls finding the secret area across from the bonfire and below. Walk right past the bonfire when something was telling me to go and use them. Fall to my death immediately after being lazy trying to roll instead of jumping across the gap. Immediately die again after spawning by jumping to my death without making sure of it first

Then, after writing this post, fall to my death again crossing the bridge without paying attention

E: then die to the red guy I couldn't parry after flawlessly parrying the stick guys on the way there

Then die in the spot before the bridge after trying to run past everything but the dual sickle guy had aggroed and followed me into that area

In the menus it's R3 or something like that, there's a prompt along the bottom but it's as poorly worded as everything else in DS3 - sorry, I can't remember the exact wording.

Having that turned on means you can't see things like item descriptions, though. The menus felt like a straight downgrade when I started DS3 (and, tbh, Bloodborne.) They're not perfect but they were pretty good in DS2.

Yeah there's a lot of awkwardly laid out panels that you can flip between like this on this screen but not like that on this screen. Thankfully you don't usually need to do a lot of detailed analysis of item stats, but it's still weirdly difficult sometimes to remember how to do basic stuff like compare two weapons or w/e.

it's crow time again

I was curious to try out the old original version of Dark Souls 2, so I've been playing the PS3 version, since that was the easiest to get my hands on.

So far a couple of things have made a bit more sense, mostly in terms of NPC placement and a shortcut or two making more sense now that they're not obviated by something else added in. Aside from that, all the other changes Scholar made seem like direct upgrades. Encounters seem a lot less planned out and a lot more like just throwing a shitload of enemies at you. The fat hammer guys in Earthen Peak are not actually more interesting when you have to fight four of them at a time.

I've played both and SotFS only felt 'hard' because it played on a bunch of expectations I had from the original. Base DS2 Amana was hell.

My hatred for Shrine has nothing to do with the mages, and everything to do with the clerics who unlike you can haul rear end straight through the water and kill you in one combo. And you're probably just outright hosed if you aggro more than one.

Akuma

Yeah if you think it's a problem that can be solved by "moving thoughtfully" your memory is mistaken. It deliberately puts you in situations where you can't just be slow and methodical.
