Statistician here. Nate used to actually be pretty good with predictive models and data journalism, but sometime around 2016 he got the idea that he's a pundit, and that's just been a total disaster. His most recent pieces that I've seen on his area of expertise were still decent, but he's not at all content to stick to those topics any more, and when he's speaking outside his area of expertise he shows his entire rear end on a pretty regular basis. I don't like the idea of saying that people aren't statisticians just because they don't have a graduate degree in my field, so I'm going to push back on the "he's not a statistician" line a bit, but at the same time I really don't like the idea that he is part of our public face. I wish he'd just go away but I know that's not going to happen any time soon.
