So my wife's condition has quickly deteriorated. She went from perfectly healthy to having no platelets (thrombocytopenia) and has progressed to aplastic anemia over the course of a week and the doctor is talking stem cell transplant now. There's no way to definitively tie this to covid (she tested positive for nucleocapsid antibodies but neither of us felt sick), but I have my suspicions otherwise this is totally idiopathic.

Listening to idiots blithely talk about rolling the dice with covid now makes me angry in a way that's hard to articulate.

How accurate is the binax in threads opinion?
there was some study someone posted, depending on how you administer it, can be as good as 94%, as bad as 40% or something like that?

i can't find the post but here's this study,

https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD013705.pub2/full

Authors' conclusions
Antigen tests vary in sensitivity.

here's an article talking about that study, https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021/08/28/are-home-covid-tests-accurate/

How accurate and reliable are at-home tests?
Some tests “work better than others,” said Albert Ko, chair of the epidemiology and microbial diseases department at the Yale School of Public Health. Accuracy depends, in part, on test sensitivity and specificity, Ko said. Test sensitivity is how well it can identify individuals infected with the coronavirus. Test specificity refers to the likelihood of getting a false positive result.

In general, antigen tests are less sensitive than molecular tests. A scientific review published by the Cochrane Library found that in people with confirmed covid-19, antigen tests correctly identified infections in an average of 72 percent of people with symptoms, compared with 58 percent of infected people without symptoms. (The review included tests that aren’t currently FDA authorized.)

Your state probably does have it in a database somewhere, it just isn't connected in real time and who even knows how it would attempt to reconcile somebody showing up a second time anyway. It might overwrite your old data or just start a new record. Either way the pharmacy isn't gonna be aware of it.

It's cool how all the brain-poisoned extroverts made sure we'll never lockdown again because we could honestly probably manage a rolling series of locking down for like 14 days every 4 weeks without too much impact on the economy/society/schools and that would be enough to mitigate the worst spikes

As far as cresting goes I will say that hospitalizations in my area have somehow stayed pretty steady for almost a month now at high but not overwhelming levels even though cases have continued to go up that whole time. We did kinda plateau last week on new cases but that appears to be an artifact of Labor Day influencing testing.
