Drafting for just one year is just fantasy hockey, which most of us already play. This draft is about putting together the best possible team for the future imo (or some dumb gimmick team I guess). I'd never take the team I took if I had them for just one year. But 5-10 years? Hell yeah. We'd never finish but I preferred when these drafts were 30 rounds for that reason, as in the salary cap era especially your prospect core is such a large part of the organization. e: I mean win now teams are a thing too. This is another difficult pick, as there are a handful of forwards I would LOVE to add and all of them might be gone by the time I go up next, but it is also important to grab another defenseman while the pickings are fast slimming down. While I plan on playing my Toews-McAvoy pairing around 26 minutes a night, I still want a defensive stalwart to help on the PK and to get tough minute assignments. Only 31 and still an elite defensive defenseman (and has been for as long as I can remember), the Devils are pleased to select Chris Tanev to anchor the second pair.
