No, of course not.

If you are someone who may potentially require security against state agencies, such as an environmental or human rights activist or leftist political organizer, you should be avoiding Apple entirely and running something like CalyxOS with no social media. If you want to keep using an iPhone and security is a concern turn off iCloud device backups and back up locally to your own computer, otherwise Apple holds the keys to your little data castle and will happily share them with law enforcement.

Apple has had industry leading surface level privacy protection against things like Facebook and provide a strong compromise between user convenience/features and privacy for most boring normies, but if you’re going to be doing dangerous things like trying to protect the environment or poor people you’re going to want to sacrifice some convenience and niceness for better security.

Can you post some examples of Apple doing this?

I'm genuinely curious because governments still bitch about Apple not handing them data they want.

law enforcement agencies and governments will bitch until they have an at-will one-click backdoor into anyone's accounts and devices, what they have to say is irrelevant in this context

https://www.apple.com/legal/transparency/pdf/requests-2019-H1-en.pdf

https://www.apple.com/legal/transparency/pdf/requests-2020-H1-en.pdf

https://www.apple.com/legal/transparency/

Apple cooperates with law enforcement and while many of their systems are designed such that they obfuscate or abstract personally identifiable information the company still holds the keys to your device backups and all the data within, and they hand this data out as required by government entities.

most of my shitposting is done on an iphone, apple is totally a less-bad company than something like samsung, but they are not your friend and should not be trusted if you are potentially a target of government interest

p sure they'll give you anything you want from icloud. like, in the bakersfield shooting case they said specifically if they got the phone on wifi and let it back up they'd have been able to supply anything, iirc.

the tl;dr on privacy and security ime is that if your bogeyman is Facebook and you aren't savvy to loving around with software you'll be best served just rolling with an iphone, while if you're someone who stands a high chance of being specifically targeted it's time to buy a pixel phone and dive into the world of FOSS

get a 12 or 12 Pro. Good deals/refurbs to be had. P much everything the 13 does that you would care about, minus the screen getting a bit brighter and the battery running an hour longer

Is there some law that an Apple device can't have both FaceID and TouchID in one? Since it doesn't look like masks are going anywhere anytime soon, I'd gladly give up every other upgrade to have loving TouchID again.
