Watching it a bunch more times, I think the grab is what did it. Assuming the whole slide has a consistent side-to-side tilt (which is admittedly a bit of an assumption), it shouldn't matter how fast he's going in the same way a bullet fired out of a level gun will hit the ground as a dropped one.

If you watch the seam that runs in line with the divider he runs into, when he reaches the peak he is past the seam and following right behind the previously-pushing-people on his way to the exit. Once he tries to grab, he comes back over towards the entrance a bit and basically rides along the seam all the way down into the divider.
