bessantj posted:What was so bad about it? Worst Crossover of both the big two or just Marvel? It's often called the worst crossover, full stop. That said, it's mercifully short compared to some truly awful crossovers I've read. Quick background: the Avengers were dogshit awful at the time. A book that mainly existed on inertia. The Crossing was one of those, "Everything you know is wrong!" storylines that were popular at the time. I read it a few years ago and nothing from it sticks in my head because outside of the big reveals, it doesn't make a lot of sense. There's a door in the Avengers' basement that's really mysterious and characters nobody could ever care about driving the plot. The big thing is that Tony Stark had been working for Kang right from the beginning and now was the time for him to betray everyone. That's how the Wasp gets injured and then fixed up by turning her into a.bug monster. The Avengers take care of their Iron Man problem by getting a teenaged Tony Stark from the past to replace him and the one that people had been reading about for decades gets killed. Then Heroes Reborn happened immediately afterward and everyone just politely forgot that any of it ever happened.

I don't follow X-Men to know if they've ever "gone there" but I'm thinking about how in so many romance stories in fiction where the man and woman are at odds with each other until it's revealed the tension all along was actually attraction and they end up together and then thinking about Cyke and Wolverine over the years.

There's an alternate reality Logan that's married to Hercules. But so far in X-Men I think it's more strongly implied that both Scott and Logan are with Jean and just friends with each other. Aside from the apartment diagram there's hasn't been anything explicit about Jean and Logan actually hooking up though. A Cyke/Wolverine make-out scene would be pretty cool, if only for how much it would freak the gently caress out of the comicsgate people.

A Brief History of Thor in the 1990s: 1991: Eric Masterson becomes Thor with a half-mask half-helmet and other minor cosmetic changes to make him a HERO FOR THE NINETIES 1993: Thor Odinson returns and has his classic outfit, but Eric becomes Thunderstrike, a HERO FOR THE NINETIES 1994: Thor joins "The Godpack" to work with High Evolutionary, and gets a cool new armored costume to truly show that he is a HERO FOR THE NINETIES 1995: Thunderstrike dies and his book is canceled, proving that Thor Odinson is the real HERO FOR THE NINETIES Also 1995: To really show that he is a HERO FOR THE NINETIES, Thor gets a revamp from Warren Ellis, which shifts the focus to a hardboiled British bastard chainsmoking in a trenchcoat who is trying to figure out what's going on with Thor. Short answer: he's been banging the Enchantress, has decided he should stop talking dumb and stop wearing his dumb outfit. He just starts walking around shirtless/helmetless and using NINETIES colloquialisms. Also 1995: Post-Ellis, Thor gets a costume with CHAINS and an AB-WINDOW courtesy of Mike Deodato Jr. as part of the Crossing event, except while he's shown in the costume in various promotional art and covers, he's just in his old shirtless outfit for 99% of the crossover. 1996: The cool chain costume eventually appears officially for the first time in Marvel vs. DC. After that it appears in a couple of guest appearances and in the final issue of Thor before he sacrifices himself in the Onslaught crossover, where he appears in the previous shirtless costume. Also 1996: Rob Liefeld redesigns the Avengers, including Thor, for Heroes Reborn, finally making him a HERO FOR THE NINETIES! 1998: Thor comes back in Heroes Return, looking pretty much exactly like he did in the 1980s.
