Same on all 3. I got 9, including a few that I haven't seen.

I got 13 straight away, no question (Oceans Eleven, Back to the Future, Wizard of Oz, Cast Away, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Big Lebowski, Black Swan, Space Jam, Hot Tub Time Machine, Being John Malkovich, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Home Alone & Star Wars). I guessed a couple more that turned out to be right (Field of Dreams & Miami Vice). So that's a total of 15 correct. I almost got the one that turned out to be Ghostbusters but switched my guess to Casper. Then there were a few more where I was on the right track but didn't quite get there:
  • The one that turned out to be The Matrix, I guessed Blade Runner.
  • Instead of Midsommar I guessed The Wicker Man.
  • For WALL-E I guessed Star Wars and I still say that's clearly a picture of R2D2.
  • Guessed Braveheart instead of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Practically the same movie, right?
  • For National Treasure I guessed The Da Vinci Code.
  • For Edward Scissorhands I guessed Beetlejuice.

Cool, great job!

For the Movie AI posted previously, I was wondering what specific text the author was using.

Because why is one person getting struck by lightning in Footloose?

I figured it out.

Goto google, search for "footloose" and check the sidebar to the right of the results.

quote:

Moving in from Chicago, newcomer Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) is in shock when he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal. As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt (Christopher Penn), and defiant teen Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), he might loosen up this conservative town. But Ariel's influential father, Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), stands in the way.

It also explains why Dr. Strangelove is so barren of details with just a ton of charts (actually upside down US flags now that I look at it again) and wood panelling except for the partial bomber plane in the middle.

quote:

A film about what could happen if the wrong person pushed the wrong button -- and it played the situation for laughs. U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely insane, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. He thinks that the communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people.

Does anyone know what the learning process for these networks is? It seems really odd to me how inventive/"wrong" many of these are (same for an earlier example with IIRC different words that was posted here).

I don't think there's a good answer to "why does it do that?". Going from the training process and the structure/parameters of the network to an intelligible description of why it makes certain mistakes is an incredibly difficult problem. There's a lot of research about how to do that but it's nowhere near solved.

Ah, sorry, what I meant was more about what the source data/corpus for the network was, and what the network was asked to optimize in the learning process; i.e. what the human-controlled variables that led to this outcome were.

This has trouble with the style mashup but w/e

quote:

I met a traveller from an antique forum,
Who said—“Two vast and contentless posts of poo poo
Stand in the thread. . . . Near them, on the
same forum,
Your son was banned, and mine, for vulgarity.

The elder traveller then grew cheerier,
And said—“‘Tis the eternal law of things;
They gently caress you up, your mum and dad.
For all of that, what does it matter?

quote:

I met a traveller from an antique forum,
Who said—“Two vast and contentless posts of poo poo
Stand in the thread. . . . Near them, on the
sands,
An old man, robed in crappy grey and red,
Writes in the sand, and lets his beard hang down
As in a childish game. . . .”

I said—“What does the old man write?”

The traveller answered—“He writes ‘Credo,’
And then the sand, which is of silver mixed,
Writes under in the old man’s own hand—
“‘Et resurgo.’”

H.P. Lovecraft, “The Silver Key” (1926)

—Steve Donoghue

quote:

I met a traveller from an antique forum,
Who said—“Two vast and contentless posts of poo poo
Stand in the thread. . . . Near them, on the
very brink,
A little fish employs his languid strength
To dart into the central blackness, then
With just enough momentum to keep his tail
Above the surface, circling thus forlorn
About the void. . . . The fish is called ‘User’;
He thought he was a dolphin, but he’s just a fish.”

“And what,” I said, “became of the two vast posts?”
“Just what you’d imagine,” said the traveller. “The first
Was made a postmaster; but the second’s fate
Is left untold.”—Thus spoke the traveller from
Antiquity, and bowed and vanished there.
The thread whereon he spoke remains; and there
The little fish still darts about, and there
Still hovers after it the blank despair
