Greek names are very easy to pronounce if you see the original. In many cases, Wikipedia also has the IPA pronunciation (which is rarely needed since Greek is consistently pronounced, with like two exceptions) This guy is Θουκυδίδης [tʰuːkyːdídɛːs]

Or learn the total of less than 40 letters/diphthongs in Greek so you can read and pronounce pretty much anything ever written in Greek, ancient or otherwise, to a pretty reasonable extent, I dunno

Serperoth posted:Nah it just legit bothers me when people gently caress up Greek (it's my native language) when it's almost unambiguous about pronunciation. Counterpoint: if you are nicer to idiots who don't know how to pronounce things, they'll think it's OK not to learn. Edit: also it might be helpful to shock some people out of their english-centered brains when you go "actually there are other languages in the world and maybe expecting someone to know how to pronounce things in those other languages isn't that absurd", especially since you've already learned their language to tell them about your own.

https://twitter.com/general_sthe/status/1263574650468122629 The joke is that Mario was cast as Literally Chris Pratt. Charles Marinet is still in the movie somewhere, though. EDIT: Yeah, figures I'd get beaten on that.

Honestly, the rest of the cast is firmly in 'this could work' territory (except for Jack Black as Bowser, which is in 'exactly the correct choice' territory), but that specific bad pick is almost hilarious.

Sometimes a quote sticks with you. There's a quick bit in "Way of the Gun" where Ryan Phillipe asks Benicio Del Toro "what do you think?" And Del Toro responds "I think a plan is just a list of things that don't happen." And I think about that quote constantly. Edit realized you were talking about the first person not the Greek quoter.
