I've never flatted on a ride actually. And this was riding on lovely NYC roads. My only flats have from the tube failing at the stem which I've noticed the tire was flat when I went to pump it up before going on a ride.

Of course now that I've said this, I'm going to get a double flat on every one of my next few rides.

I ran marathons for 3 years and never had a single flat. They didn't feel great to actually ride on though, so I ended up switching to the Maxxis rambler in 38c. Those marathons were bullet proof. When I went to throw them out I ruined a pair of heavy duty scissors trying to cut them into smaller pieces. They were totally unharmed.

My old lady and I ride a tandem sometimes, and nyc being what it loving is, swerving on a tandem to avoid glass is not always optimal when in traffic so just bite my lip and :ohdear: -- the worst flat I got was a newish gatorskin tire deciding to have a sidewall blowout while riding the hero gear up a steep hill 3 miles from home.

Oh yeah they feel like garbage, even the supremes are pretty bad, but for commuting through the blasted hellscape that is a British town centre they are ideal. Somebody had smashed a bus shelter window all over the bike lane a few weeks ago and I didn't even slow down for it.

I'm now expecting to double-flat next time I so much as sit on the bike.

so i need some help picking out a bicycle helmet.

my head is huge. i run a 7 5/8 to 7 3/4 fitted baseball cap.

I am wanting to start biking again, but I feel wobbly and I feel like I would be stupid to not get a helmet.

The only helmet I have found in this size is the Serfas HT-400/404 Metro Helmet.

Is this thing any good? I googled my local bike shops and they don't sell helmets in the 58 cm + range unless you order.

I can not find a single review or video of this helmet anywhere. I guess Serfas mostly sells bike accessories rather than helmets.

I'm just looking for some advice on what to do or if anyone knows a helmet that's in the 58-62 cm range and will let me return it if it doesn't fit at this point.

This place called moosejaw will let me buy it with free shipping for about 60 bucks, and if I want to return it, its just 8 dollar fee and I get the rest back. Its the same helmet that my local store would have to order for me, and I don't know if they would let me return it.

Is there a known option for a large head like mine?

Your best best is to go to bike shop and try helmets on. Wear it for a few minutes as you walk around to see if any hotspots start to develop.

Sizing and head shape can vary between brands, but also between different models within the same brand. I'm a pretty big dude with a big head and I actually wear Medium in Kask and Giro.

I would like to specifically call out that there are a wide range of non-certified BMX helmets in the US that are extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all cost. Video linked at specific timestamp:

Are there no bigger shops a drive away?

My head is 7 5/8 and I wear a Kask Mojito XL, after trying on a bunch in shops.

Most of the brands have an L or XL option, which can adjust to 61cm+

This is not an unusual size.

Chainreactioncycles are good about returns and stock many brands.

Bern makes XXL-XXXL helmets, the model is Brentwood. I mistakenly grabbed one. The label says that it is for 60.5 cm - 63.5 cm domes. Happy to sell it to you, too. (EN 1078 Certified)

Anyone ever had cramps on the inside of their thigh, knee to groin?

I maybe didn’t drink enough water / electrolytes today, but only did 50ish miles, and it wasn’t hot.

And it’s a weird muscle to have a cramp in, never happened before.

Possible causes:
- I spent some time commuting on my old bike, with temporary stock flat pedals.
- I also moved my saddle on my main bike: forward, added a small downwards tilt, and raised it a little…

serious gaylord
Sep 16, 2007

what.
Yes. It could be from all of the reasons you put above, it could also be because you're getting older and stood up a bit weird on the pedals or tweaked something.

I used to get the cramp you're describing while riding my motorbike if I made a sudden movement.

I had a good ride today. The ride itself was average, but I saw an old man in the last mile that I hadn't seen on the trails in months. I thought maybe he had died or something. There was another elderly man I'd see practically every weekend I rode for years, always slowly riding along with a faded purple shirt and faded chunky yellow helmet. I haven't seen him once this year. I hope I'm just not seeing him because he just got a new shirt and helmet as opposed to dying of covid or something.

Cramps aren't real.

I repeat this to myself whenever I cramp, and if I keep saying it they go away, so it must be true.

i timed a ride up in the foothills perfectly today, set out right after a quick little drizzle and got 2 hours of sunshine before torrential rain. so satisfying.

but then cruising home in the car the bikes got absolutely covered in road spray on the rear rack for like 45 mins. i guess it was time to clean up my bike but drat. still a great day.
