In my experience, headset tracking on the Quest 2 is basically flawless and the controllers are the only component that ever lose their position, and it happens specifically when they're out of sight of the headset cameras. Since the controller cameras could see the room outside of the headset's field of view, I can see this being more reliable. I can fully believe that Oculus have nailed down accurate tracking without the need for IR sensors. Also the big stupid rings are the only part of the Quest I've bashed against the wall multiple times, and removing the extra mass should allow for much lighter, more comfortable hand grips, since they'll be lighter and have a much better centre of gravity.

The very few times I've bashed the rings into stuff, I've been kinda glad that it wasn't my hand. The only time the Quest 1 loses tracking in my experience is when the cameras can't see it. Otherwise it's always been spot on.

I’m super interested to see how social apps change once the integration of face/eye tracking become more standard. What’s even more curious to me is if future revisions of the Quest line will continue to get the amount of feature support the current ones have had. I always just assumed they underscoped the software’s demands on the hardware purposefully so they could build it out once they had enough users, but future revisions may not include that thinking.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/pv61rv/sadlyitsbradley_has_been_digging_in_the_kernel/ This guy mentions Quest 2+ and Quest 2 Pro as different devices. I think it would make sense, having a Plus version with the new controllers and slightly improved other stuff, with still similar price, and a Pro version with the microleds and the face tracking, with more... Valve-like price.

When did the index controllers lose the nickname "the knuckles" or "the nucks" (for short)?

That should be incredibly easy to fake as well, because Oculus uses beach names for their projects. It's sloppy, and lowrez images suggests hiding photoshopping.

Maybe, but if it's for consumer focus testing then they probably would go with a super generic 'brand x' sort of name. I don't mind the strap not being removable as long as it combines the functionality of the elite strap without the fragility. If all of the leaks are accurate then I think I'll definitely be looking to upgrade.

The strap's odd as well, because it does not look well made, and doubles-down on the issues with the existing Pro straps that cracked in that if that strap breaks, there goes your entire HMD because it's a monocoque design. Oculus are amazing engineers, and this seems like a basic mistake they wouldn't make after the issues with the Quest 2's straps. I'm not saying it's entirely impossible it's a genuine leak, just that something in that Imgur leak specifically is just not passing the smell test for me.

Could be, plus I'd be surprised if Oculus didn't take the opportunity to sell extra head straps. At least the controllers are somewhat concrete!

I hope it's legit and the reason for the strap being built in is that they've completely removed the battery from the face portion and moved it to the back of the strap. Would be nice to have a super comfy and well balanced headset without needing to add counterweights.

Gotta love the devs that are so focused on making the metaverse that makes a experience worse than the original, instead of better in at least a few ways.

Okay this doesn't make sense to me. If I'm in the default Quest2 home, I can hear audio fine. I can plug in a set of headphones or earbuds and hear the audio output fine. If I connect to my PC via Oculus Link (cable, not airlink) I also hear audio via the headset when no headphones are plugged into the Quest2. But as soon as I plug my headphones in, no sound is had at all. Everything I google up is people having issues where the windows settings doesn't have the "Headphones (Oculus Virtual Audio Device)" set, and setting that fixes it for them. This is apparently entirely from plugging in headphones. What the gently caress?

Some more furious googling led me to the actual solution: It's both driver and mechanical in nature. Apparently PCVR doesn't like the headphone/mic combination jack. Despite it being perfectly fine for stand-alone mode, using a headphone cord without a microphone as part of the 3.5mm jack worked fine. What the gently caress?

Does anyone find it useful to have a 256gb quest 2 over the 128gb? I'm looking at bundles, and I don't think I'm interested in any of the official accessories. If I end up using it a lot, I'd consider a big battery down the line. I really want to try wireless VR. EDIT: VVVV raditts posted:I have yet to even fill my 64gb, I use it to wirelessly connect to pcvr as often as possible but I use it a fair bit for quest exclusive apps as well. 64G seems like tons of room, or at least I thought so until I dragged & dropped a 180 3D VR video onto the headset so it would be available to watch even without network connection. That ate up my free space fast, let me tell you.
