I mean it’s pretty simple, if you consider trans men to be men then yes men can have a cervix. It shouldn’t be a struggle to put it in plain terms like that.

Yeah it seems to be an easy one, not all women have cervixes including trans women and intersex women, I'm not even sure it's correct to day all cis women have cervixes

Labour are so loving useless they didn't consider that the person they sent on the media rounds might actually get asked a question that was asked of the party leader the day before, and so didn't give them a prepared answer consisting of something more than a string of plosives

Communist Thoughts posted:Yeah it seems to be an easy one, not all women have cervixes including trans women and intersex women, I'm not even sure it's correct to day all cis women have cervixes The correct answer is that, yes, people with cervixes should have cervical smear tests and people without should not, and whether someone has one or not should be between them and whatever medical records their gynecologist accesses. There's nothing more to it than that. Yes it might be a waste of time doing a cervical exam on a trans woman, in the same way that it would almost certainly be a waste of time doing one on a cis woman with CAIS, but that is a medical matter and only a medical matter. Anything more than that implies that there's some social situation where the person going down this path of debate would be comfortable asking someone if they have a cervix. Maybe that's what Nick Ferrari does in his spare time, but that isn't 'putting people on the spot' it's being a weirdo.

That may be why it's become the bigot's body part of choice to define a woman, after it was pointed out that women who had had double mastectomies or their uterus removed were still women.

Yes, but the correct response to that is to just say they are wrong. But given that she apparently thinks trans women and women are diametrically opposed categories, I think the reason she would not say that is because she agrees with the terfs.

I guess I’m thinking not of the TERFs but if anyone listening to the interview who hasn’t really thought about it much. Most people are broadly supportive of trans right but probably aren't deeply enough into the discourse to know why a statement of ‘not everyone with a cervix is a woman’ is reasonable, or the viewpoints of the people arguing it. Helps to clearly point out the angle that people arguing against it are coming from

I think it's as simple as all women of a certain age on a GP's list gets sent smear test reminders. That includes trans women. The problem arises that trans men no longer receive the reminders as an automatic thing. Jedit posted:I don't think that the cervix is removed in a hysterectomy. That may be why it's become the bigot's body part of choice to define a woman, after it was pointed out that women who had had double mastectomies or their uterus removed were still women. There are 4 different types of hysterectomy, and the most common kind does remove the cervix: total hysterectomy – the womb and cervix (neck of the womb) are removed; this is the most commonly performed operation subtotal hysterectomy – the main body of the womb is removed, leaving the cervix in place total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy – the womb, cervix, fallopian tubes (salpingectomy) and ovaries (oophorectomy) are removed radical hysterectomy – the womb and surrounding tissues are removed, including the fallopian tubes, part of the vagina, ovaries, lymph glands and fatty tissue

Post something funny from Labour conference please, I've had a miserable morning painting two doors and it's taking forever and the paint goes and gets stuck loving everywhere (especially when you put your hand on the bit you just painted while leaning like a loving moron. And so have to take your gloves off. And then you do it again and now the paint is on your hands) And today should've been a glorious day of playing Lost Judgement but probably going to only get a couple hours in. And same again tomorrow So yes, I need something funny like Kieth pissing himself

The key to not getting into a massive argument with the missus in the middle of IKEA is to have a big slice of Daim cheesecake and a beer as soon as you get in the door, then totter around with a slight buzz on and get a taxi home. The last chinese import thing I built they didn't put in four tubes so I was one shelf short, therefore I demand that we start a nuclear war with china as revenge for this injustice. (on the plus side I was able to stick both kits together to make a slightly less than double height shelf unit because they used the same parts all the way up)
