What's the scam here where the scammer actually benefits? Might as well pick up the person and drive legitimately?

I'm still with a corp that still does this, just waiting until they end up with gift cards or a pizza party friday.
Years ago our christmas bonus would be upto half a month wage, which all of us loving loved.
Then they changed it to split it up in two, you get it every 6 months. This slowly was reduced.
Then they made it more 'performance linked', so nowadays you need to do 130% of normal work to earn a day or two wage bonus which it is now.
And this is a corp that gets records profits every year.
And not one of us gives a poo poo trying to get this, and they wonder why we aren't working as best we can.

So many people pissed that there isn't a "Super Heaven" for rich people

quote:

Matthew 20:1-16

1 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.

3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.

“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’

7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.

“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’

8 “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’

9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’

13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Sometimes I just read chunks of the bible cuz I'm bored, I've never really been religious but it's kinda interesting to go through I guess? Anyway I noticed some of the old and a whole lot of the new testament has sections that really really feel like someone was standing over the shoulder of a scribe 1700 years ago going "no no put something in there about how hard it is to be rich and you should be thankful you're poor" cuz multiple times Jesus would say something about how rich people suck and then a few pages later there'd be a parable about how rich people sure do have it tough, gosh.

I know this probably isn't news to most of you but I found it interesting idk

My favorite bible thing so far has been the bit that the "we are legion" thing is from because the full story is "Some guy full of demens came up to Jesus, Jesus sent the demens out of the man into a flock of sheep, then all 2000 sheep immediately bolted into a nearby body of water and drowned themselves. After this the shepherds whose sheep he just killed were like '... you need to leave. Now.' So Jesus left. The end."

the christians were a direct threat to Roman power structures precisely because they were heavily communal, and largely existed (as much as they could, anyway) outside of local politics and economics. not so much once it got adopted by the powerful of course.

i once picked up the wrong passenger after an NBA game cause he had the same name as the dude I was supposed to pick up. The original guy called me and started screaming and swearing at me so I just hung up and continued on my way. I got paid for the ride thru Lyft and the dude i picked up felt bad so he paid me cash too.
