I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

I remember the discourse and there was also a whole bunch of "no one ever makes money in online comics, if you claim to you're clearly a trust fund baby and just pretending to make money" and then things like kickstarter and patreon started dropping receipts to comics collections getting hundreds of thousands of dollars of backing. "traditional" comic artists just went silent in the space of a couple of months.

Somehow the Penny Arcade guys have made literally tens of millions of dollars while also signing away the rights to their entire business twice in the early 2000s. But sure, keep telling us how online comics are never going to make money.

If you look at examples like Dresden Kodak it demonstrates that you can get paid even more to not make a webcomic.

One of Bobby Crosby’s comics is the storyline for the newest Owen Wilson/J-Lo romcom, so at least a bit

“Yeah whatever. The author probably hid a double space or two on most lines.”

Brings it into a text editor, highlights double spaces.

“Mother of god.”

The author doesn’t even use those misspellings to make the lines work. “Missle” is used throughout, one hundred and thirty‐three times.

I remember when Scott Kurtz was trying to get newspapers to pick up PVP, eventually he started offering it to editors for free as long as they included a link back to his site. The guy who does Non-Sequitur called him out and they got into a little feud culminating in this strip being printed in papers:

I swear Kris Straub did a strip about wanting to be published in papers being the same as swimming out to get onto the Titanic as it's sinking, but it's been excised from the internet (probably because Kurtz is his buddy)

R stevens' Diesel Sweeties was in newspapers for like a year and a half 7 days a week, while he continued to do 5 web strips a week. He only quit because it was keeping him to busy to work on new merchandise and he made a lot more from that than from what the syndication paid him.
