I know everyone knows this in the thread, but... come on... there was nothing going on in this game. I walked around (very slowly and janky) and lifeless NPCs stood around and walked. I had to turn down my settings to 1080p, though I play most games in 4k (Cyberpunk being the exception at 1440). I saw people talking in chat, went into a bar that was empty. I fell through the world.

Respawned and went exploring. I can't remember the name of the place I chose but it was fancy looking with tram lines. I got on one of those and was happy that I didn't fall through the ground. Got off the tram and then fell through an tiny opening that I decided to try and jump over.

Respawned and went to the hangers to see if I could summon my ship. I couldn't figure out which bay or what to do. I uninstalled it.

Wow what a game. Move over Mass Effect. We have a new king. To be clear, I am comparing the entire Star Citizen to just the ending of Mass Effect 3. We have a new King of poo poo!

I can remember back to the Everquest Alpha and they at least had running around and hitting things in the game. Like, ok I can see what you are trying to do here. What the gently caress is SC? Is it Freelancer multiplayer? Is it a persistent world No Man's Sky? No it's Second Life in space. Wow.

Seriously, there was not a single iota of gameplay. It appears to be a future chat program at the moment and they decided to let the general public play that? I don't get it.

I rate this "game" 1 star out of an infinite multiverse of stars.

Don't extrapolate from the current Alpha, it is nothing like what it is to become. Star Citizen is a universe simulator, not a ship owners simulator.

A lot of players won't even bother getting ships, they'll be happy to go around as independent operators using passenger services. Most of the new players will come after release when they can't get big ships so easily. Right now it is easy to grind for them for testing purposes only. Later owning a ship will be considered a rarity in UEE society, most will owned and operated by big organisations or government agencies - most of the verse's population aren't even citizens, they are civilians. Large ships will not be cheap to run.

Chris has said it multiple times and every calculation agrees with him; no matter how big this game gets before traditional marketing, it will explode after. They fully expect their go-forward game purchases and optional UEC purchases to eclipse all pre-release financial income, perpetually.

The appeal is going to be HUGE. It'll be Star Wars huge, open world game huge (think Skyrim), etc., as it blends all the things that are independently hugely appealing already. MS flight sim shows that the desire for simulations similar to this are primed and ready.

As big as it already is, relatively few of the potential gamers that will one day know of it actually know of it today. The gaming world, and therefore the potential, is -that- big.
