Daylight savings only really makes sense for people living outside of the tropics, which is why it's only NSW and Victoria (the orange and red states) who are actually changing their times. All the rest are staying as they are. Western Australia doesn't bother because the whole state is a desert with about 5 people living outside Perth anyway.

A/AAAA records are missing and BGP routes got deleted. There's noting to Deny Service to, because the service is not there, and there's no associated traffic spike that you'd see with a DDOS. And even more, if Facebook was experiencing a DDOS, they've weathered worse. I suspect someone did an uh-oh internally.

What we do know: All of FB's internal tools are down Their BGP routes got messed up and/or deleted Their DNS servers are not responding, and in some cases A/AAAA records are completely missing. It reeks of an internal networking mistake more than an attack, but that is all we know right now. There's no DDOS, because that requires the service to be there in the first place.
