Okay? I'm not saying it wasnt. Pasaluski saying "Jacksonville is no prize even for an ambitious OC." is hilariously stupid because deserving candidates take worse opportunities all the time. Like anyone taking a Browns job or Joe Cully taking the Houston job.

I dont know that anyone was beating down david culleys door but alright then.
I agree in the sense that any head coaching job is valuable but your uh ownership just hired Urban Meyer and now are probably going to fire him mid-season.

I guess what I'm saying it isn't the Jaguars teal tongue that is potentially unattractive to HC candidates.

I'm not saying anyone was beating down Joe David Cully's door either; having read a little on his career as an assistant I'm saying he was a deserving candidate as in the work he did has merit, even if the league at large didnt have a hardon for him like some younger assistants can get. Mike McCarthy lead the, I think, 31st overall offense in San Fran the year before the Packers hired him but his career prior had merit for consideration as an HC.

You do a have a good point that the ownership is a bit idiotic but its really hard to grade that out. The Browns ownership has had a revolving door of HCs but they still managed to snag a great candidate in Stefanski. I thought the Charger's owners were dumb as poo poo for firing Anthony Lynn and his offensive staff after coaching Herbert to his record breaking Rookie of the Year season, but the Chargers landed a guy that seems to be pretty great. I think part of why Shad is so patient with his coaches is because he wants them to feel job security (compared to, say, the Browns).

I think Shad's biggest problem as an owner is that he's a decent and honorable man.

I think he tries to do the right thing and believes the best in people. I don't think he knows really what kind of person will help the Jacksonville Jaguars I think he tries to hire those people and they hustle the poo poo out of him.

Happened with the Pegulas too they got swindled so hard by Rex Ryan because they were really new owners and naive.

Shad is actually an incredibly rare example of a self-made billionaire though--- Pakistani immigrant who moved to the US with basically nothing, worked through school, opened a body shop, and eventually built a car parts empire.

Of course, all this means is that he syphoned way more employee surplus value to get there

It is impossible to become unhireable in modern college football. As long as you aren't dead or locked up in federal prison, you can get hired. Just look at texas, they decided Steve sarkissian was the answer. The man who had severe alcohol problems and usc just left him on the airport tarmac. And lane kiffin, busy loving over schools and being terrible and now it's like none of that happened. Or was he the one that got left on the tarmac by USC? These are guys that didn't even come close to a title, Meyer can do whatever the gently caress he wants as a multiple title winner at multiple schools.

All you gotta do is go to the nick saban coach image rehabilitation program for a year and you are a new man free from sin and ready to gently caress up once again at some school.

Weren't most if not all of the statements (and Urbz' "apology") made just after the release of the first video of the woman dancing in his lap? The 2nd video seemed to come out after the statements.

I kinda wonder what would've happened if he'd gone the full non-apology route and said, "What I do in my personal time is no one's business, gently caress off." If he hadn't hitched his image so much to Tim Tebow and Papa John's and all this wholesome conservative family values culture poo poo, he probably wouldn't have to do any of this. Then again, I keep thinking modern society is less concerned about people's affairs than they were in the past and then I keep seeing them being titillated by it. Doesn't help he left his team to go do this poo poo.

I dont think it would have made a difference if he issued the non-apology because either way the players don't respect him.

I'm not a prude but having that happen in front of like a mural of your wife at your own restaurant is extremely embarrassing and really undermines his authority regardless of the broader context of whether morally it is acceptable behavior.

But the unforgivable "football" sin is not traveling with the team after a loss I've never heard of a coach just being like "nah I'm good cya squares"

This has been so wonderful. gently caress Urban. gently caress his predatory college coaching. gently caress his scheme, gently caress the Ohioans who were delusional about his ability to coach.

I feel terrible for anyone who has to play on the Jags this year. This is a Chip Kelly in San Fran kind of clusterfuck.

Yeah I feel like ditching your team to finger blast 18 year olds in public while a giant mural of your wife looks on, then taking zero responsibility for it or any of the team's on the field struggles, is on a plane far beyond Chip Kelly's Wild Ride. These are truly uncharted waters of buffoonery, and the best part is, it's almost certainly going to escalate even more before it ends.

Chip was "just" out of his depth yet extremely arrogant (plus, yeah, running all of his very talented players who were coincidentally black out of town :thunk:)

In theory, if Urban could get it together and keep his head down and the Jags could just secure one win in the next 4–5 weeks, this could all go away.

Problem is that Urban's going to keep spiraling.

I had somehow completely forgotten that Urbz was Aaron Hernandez's college coach. From the wiki:

quote:

At first, Hernandez committed to play at the University of Connecticut[12] with his brother D.J., but later chose to play for the University of Florida under head coach Urban Meyer.[9][20] Meyer flew to Connecticut and convinced Hernandez's principal to allow him to graduate more than a semester early.[14] This allowed Hernandez to move to Florida, join the team, and learn the playbook shortly after his 17th birthday.[14] The Boston Globe later opined that

There was no way, except physically, he was ready for this. The young man who came to Gainesville wasn't academically prepared or emotionally grounded for college life, according to previously undisclosed college records and recordings of phone calls Hernandez later made from jail. He had graduated high school more than a semester early — not because he was a great student but because he was a great football player. ... The athletic gifts were obvious, but behind them was an angry teenager struggling with an abusive upbringing, a growing dependence on drugs, and questions about his own sexual identity.[14]

This is basically collegerecruiting.txt and hindsight is 20/20 but I can't help but think Aaron would have been fine if he'd gone to play with his brother at UConn.
