Even if the people are getting a 1/4th of what's been leaked that's still a ton of scratch. I'm kind of bummed Critical Role is getting some major bank but still asked for Kickstarter cash for their cartoon adaptation of the Black Briar arc of campaign 1.

A BBC reporter asked a few streamers about the figures and was told they were accurate.

Fortnite streamer BBG Calc told BBC News: "The earnings list got my figure 100% correct."

Two other streamers also told BBC News the leaked figures were "about right" and reflected the payments they had received.

As people were talking about over in Trad Games, "we're just a bunch of friends playing D&D" as a defense for various oopsies over the years is starting to feel increasingly thin, even after the Amazon deal and super successful KS.

Yeah, I still like them a ton but at some point they have to accept that "we're just friends playing D&D" hasn't been a thing in years. They're a full-on production company now with employees and a gaming setup that a lot of DMs probably all wish they had access to.

In a discord I'm in we were discussing it and came to the conclusion that it's being done for attention by a grifter before the better parts of twitter weighed in on the matter.

Make sure the footage is at least kind of relevant to what's being discussed. If you bring up a director's past work, you should cue up footage of those other shows/films, to give an example. If you're talking about the animation, obviously you want to pull up the most important animated set pieces (good or bad). And any particularly hilarious or crazy clips, you'll want to show with the actual audio. I don't think I'm saying anything you aren't already planning for, though.

This was certainly the PLAN, but there's a gigantic problem with that plan which you allude to here:

The 7th Guest posted:

One thing you'll likely have to deal with is potential copyright flags depending on the distributor of the anime. Toei for example can be pretty bad about copyright flagging, whereas a studio like JC Staff probably doesn't care as much. MB recently had to deal with his OddTaxi video getting blocked by Pony Canyon (a really dumb decision since it's a niche anime in need of wider visibility). I don't think you'll have to deal with actual copyright STRIKES but before premiering a video you should probably upload a test version unlisted/private and see if it gets flagged first, since the ContentID process is automated.

This right here is the reason why we've put so few videos up and took so many years to even try. Every single time we upload a video unlisted/private first, it gets flagged in multiple spots for copyright strikes and whatever; I got a full-on copyright strike on my account for posting a 7 second clip of an instance where I appeared on Japanese television. It's ME in the freaking video and I got a copyright strike because of the freaking TV station watermark in the corner or whatever. The main issue is that YouTube doesn't tell you ALL of the problem areas in your video, just the first two or three. So you remove/adjust the offending areas in question, re-encode the video, re-upload the video, wait for it to be processed...and then YouTube tells you ANOTHER two or three it doesn't like. When it comes to showing relevant footage, you're going to have tons and tons of clips, and so even our initial attempts that are very rudimentary are having to be re-encoded and reuploaded/reprocessed 5-10+ times each before YouTube will just settle on "this is a flag, but not a strike." There's got to be some trick or set of unwritten rules for not having to deal with all of this which enables frequent YouTubers to well, be frequent.

That whole encoding process is exponentially longer for video compared to audio as we've been doing, and so now I'm wondering if there are ways to cut down on the video encoding time while still leaving something acceptable for YouTube audience expectations. Right now we use a plugin that applies a visual animated waveform/EQ effect depending on the audio. This is easily the most CPU-intensive thing in the chain, but we figured we needed something like that because otherwise our "video" would mostly just be a still image with occasional cut-ins. I don't know how much chance we really have of doing the Jimquisition style "rapid slideshow of stills" with video clips in between since that would be prohibitively time consuming even before factoring in all of the DRM edits and reuploads.

Also Brianna's pretty much already framing any critcism of this as being from Gamergaters, which is frankly a real big shock

i mean gamergate as a thing barely exists anymore. reactionary right-wing guys existed in the gaming sphere before it and they exist after it. there was a big explosion, that explosion is basically over. it doesnt mean those guys dont exist anymore it just means that specific culture war is over and done with. making a show about reactionary online right wing discourse isnt a terrible idea but framing it so specifically around gamergate makes it seem dated.

if you look at the replies/quote tweets theres younger people, like people who first got online in 2016/2017 or so, who dont even know what gamergate is.

yeah I agree with all that. I just mean the toxicity isn't really gone, even if that particular culture war ended... it's just not under that movement anymore, but obviously I'm not saying anything new here.

I don't know why you would invoke it by name at this point for a TV project. If it was a thoroughly researched documentary it'd be one thing, like just talking about that specific time, but my guess is this is going to be another one of Netflix's sensationalized docs with a bunch of amateur talking heads speculating and one randomly inserted stand-up comedian

e: joking a little but i have a bit of a beef with some of netflix's docs if that isn't obvious, and they seem like the kind of company that would greenlight this

It’s a shame this seems to be just Brianna Wu wanting to cash in on her personal experiences, because seems to me that a documentary focused more on the way GG crystallized that entire sphere and how similar the far-right spaces to this day are to them in tactics and to a lesser extent even membership would be both more interesting and more useful.

Lots of streamers, especially the really top ones with many thousands of subs, don't publicly reveal their sub numbers. I dunno why someone would be surprised by his numbers specifically.
