not woof as in sekrit gubbermint poo poo but woof at just the sheer amount of poo poo that would need to be worked out and agreed upon by dozens and dozens of institutions. unsurprisingly it went nowhere but it was cool to think about what could be

I’m really glad most of our local crazy has been keeping itself to school board and city assembly meetings.

I’m not sure how I would react to someone protesting in front of my sons school

I don't think the government could afford the salaries for the sort of devs required to effectively implement software that could handle all of that regulatory compliance. I mean I guess we figured out healthcare.gov eventually but that was a disaster for like, a solid year.

They contracted that entire site out to CACI. One of my parent's neighbors is someone who made off like a thief during that.

not hellworld, but my province has done the development on an ID card: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/b...overview_10.pdf

the mandate is only for government services, so nothing special happens when you use your card as ID at a bank yet. there was talk of rolling out authentication to tobacco and alcohol sales licensees — you scan your card, the clerk would see a picture of you fetched from the government server pop up to confirm your identity and it would only tell them you were of age. no name, address, card number, etc. provided.

rich people should simply install an iron dome style champagne cork defense systems over their yacht’s art

every time you fire a cork off, it can automatically shoot missiles at poor people

my only personal experience with cop rangers is being hyper aware on a specific stretch of highway that goes through a national park because they have a reputation for being hard-asses about speeding

a friend of mine came an rear end-hair’s width away from jail time for hunting caribou a 1/4 mile on the wrong side of the park border

most everything else I hear is colored by the chud-lense of “dang feds have no jurisdiction to tell me I can’t mine/hunt/boat here”

Feb 21, 2007

Can confirm was a ranger at city level, and all people want to do is completely destroy habitats. we had an issue where someone went in and started shooting endangered species in an enclosed off limits area because they didn't like endangered species. Constantly struggling with getting people to not destroy the entire park was a nightmare, you'd think it would be a chill job. But it's just like get out on patrol and spend your day asking people to stop flying drones into birds, or please don't light this hill on fire, or please stop riding your quad here it's prohibited due to protected species. You also just get poo poo on endlessly by everyone you stop yelling at you about how the parks are their tax dollars, and so thereby your salary is their tax dollars. Or yelled at about how the nanny state is ruining their park visit.

RE the cops/rangers thing, it's really location dependent if you're not federal. City/county level every org seems to run with different rules and types of people. Where i was, we were very concerned about ecological impact and trying to educate people above all else. At the same time a couple cities over the ranger department was also working shifts with PD and much less about taking care of parks and ecology. Downside to being ecologically/education motivated is that the police are always fighting to take your budget and repurpose it into more cops who are "clearly going to do the job better".
