I've got a great fondness for oldschool sci-fi spaceship art like Bob Layzell's. Didn't even consider that it made it into comics.

The Incal (Jodorowsky, 'Moebius' Giraud, et al.) was a result of a failed attempt to bring Dune to the big screen. Jodorowsky recruited Chris Foss who was a mid-70s sci-fi paperback cover artist, he did the 1970s versions of Asimov's foundation trilogy for example.

L'Incal as its called in the original French, has dribs and drabs of so much in it that it's hard to call it exactly inspired by Dune. If you can say that L'Incal is inspired by Dune, then Dune is likewise inspired by the New Testament.

Yeah the Incal owns! I love Moebius' art so much, and picked up the World of Edena by him not too long ago. It doesn't have the breathless Jodo zaniness, but is just beautiful and imaginative in its own way. He didnt write the chapters all at once, iirc there's a gap in years between some of them so you see a bit of change in the art style from simpler lines and brighter colors, to more dreamlike visuals and more muted palettes which kind of matches where the story goes. I didn't post these pictures in any order like that however. Everytime I open it the use of color just blows me away, I find it so engaging to look at and explore.

Hell yeah to both.

I really like Roger Leloup's designs though. They are extremely French; very TGV.

And half his comics are set in places he just nerds out over. Bruges is rendered in painstaking detail, or Wuppertal:

Dude loves his machines and infrastructure whether on earth or in space.
