The day started off with a daytime TV discussion over whether it was OK to maybe just kill refugees, only fitting that it finishes off with an MP getting offed.

The murder is going to be used as a get out of (not literal, sadly) jail free card in debates and in front of the press by the Tories for any difficult questions or awkward revelations over the next month at the very least too which just adds more bleakness!

Maybe, depends on the nut job's motives.
If its a guy snapping over having nothing after losing the £20 top up boost, it will be quickly ignored like Jo Cox's was by that brexit nut.

Edit:
One thing for definite, watch them vote themselves a £20k increase in pay or allowances in order to 'afford security for themselves' soon.

It's the loving worst. "one of the kindest people in poliotics", get to gently caress. Maybe by tory oval office standards this might even be true but we all have to agree that he was an angel walking on the earth despite how many vulnerable people he voted to screw over. loving decorum

Ofcom has investigated, and determined that 'kind' can mean "a makeshift or otherwise atypical specimen" and 'always voting for the most vulnerable in society' does not specify which way he voted, merely that he voted on things that would impact them. No inaccuracy found.

Plenty of Tory MPs are doubtless charming people personally, with many friends who will miss them. And lots of backbenchers have their pet topics that they're pretty good on: Amess was apparently big into animal welfare. Doesn't mean they aren't huge pieces of regressive poo poo who do immense damage on the national level. I certainly won't shed any tears for the man being gone. But I think Twisto has it right that MPs getting murdered at random is probably not a good thing in general, and the backlash from this is going to be bad.

That's... an odd way to describe someone.

What's that quote (Pratchett, maybe) about someone having been responsible for like 14.2 deaths or something despite not having "murdered" anyone? That's Tories, but thousands of people.

So yeah it's sad for his friends and family but I won't shed a tear for anyone who voted through the last decade of misery.

That is Mr Pump yes, he works out how many lives he shortened and by how much, and suggests that this expressable as and morally equivalent to a number of murders.

“Do you understand what I'm saying?" shouted Moist. "You can't just go around killing people!"

"Why Not? You Do." The golem lowered his arm.

"What?" snapped Moist. "I do not! Who told you that?"

"I Worked It Out. You Have Killed Two Point Three Three Eight People," said the golem calmly.

"I have never laid a finger on anyone in my life, Mr Pump. I may be–– all the things you know I am, but I am not a killer! I have never so much as drawn a sword!"

"No, You Have Not. But You Have Stolen, Embezzled, Defrauded And Swindled Without Discrimination, Mr Lipvig. You Have Ruined Businesses And Destroyed Jobs. When Banks Fail, It Is Seldom Bankers Who Starve. Your Actions Have Taken Money From Those Who Had Little Enough To Begin With. In A Myriad Small Ways You Have Hastened The Deaths Of Many. Missed in all of today's hi-jinx, but the military are now being brought in to support staff shortages in hospitals.

quote:

The Scottish Government has requested military assistance to ease the “unprecedented” pressure on two NHS health boards.

NHS Lanarkshire and NHS Borders are facing “significant” strain due to a rise in Covid-19 admissions and a backlog in care.

NHS Lanarkshire will receive three nurses, 45 military medics, 12 general duties troops and three drivers who will be working in acute settings.

NHS Borders will receive 14 military medics, two nurses and four additional military personnel will provide assistance in acute settings.
ADVERT

Two military medics will oversee operations from the army’s headquarters in Scotland at Redford Barracks in Edinburgh.

The support personnel will be from the Royal Navy but the medically qualified staff will be from the Army.

It's funny cause I was just saying to my wife a few days ago how I thought it'd only be a matter of time 'til another MP got murdered. They're squeezing people so hard and also stoking up so much hate that one way or another it was bound to happen.

Also, yeah, funny how Social Murder is never classed as violence.
