There is a demo for this: Junkyard Simulator: First Car (Prologue 2) Which I'm downloading because all the negative reviews are saying it's a bug fest but it does look like a decently made sim from the videos.

If you like Picross-alikes, Pixross is disappointingly easy. There are no puzzles bigger than 15x15, and most of the 15x15s have multiple rows that are either empty or 15. There's one puzzle that you cannot solve unless you take advantage of the fact that the display shows you that of [1] [1] [5] [N], only the second [1] has been completed. The only interesting feature is a mode they have that, for any puzzle, hides a percentage of the number labels. You have to lose a life to click on a number and find out how many cells it is. That one's challenging. Buy Pictopix, it owns and the developer is regularly uploading new puzzles.

Doesn't seem that bad, they say Unity has saving to the registry built in, it's just that they were having file size issues on some versions of windows. Saving to the Current User should be fine. I have done dumb VB programs and they have registry saving functions built in as well. It's just a database.

Yeah, it's not really a "factory game", I think that comparing it to those is a bit of a misdirect. Riftbreaker is an action game first, there's no logistics puzzle like what Factorio and its ilk revolve around.

The building phase in Riftbreaker is more like a traditional base-builder RTS: you plomp down buildings that mine resource patches, make your unit cap go up and research upgrades. The difference is your base is permanent and your only fighting units are fixed defenses and bigger, meaner weapons for your mech. It's part Warzone 2100, part tower defense, part twin-stick shooter.

There's logistics chains in Riftbreaker - you'll need to do stuff like make geothermal plants to generate mud/sludge to fuel a water purification plant to fuel a research lab with correct pipeline and power connections between all components that need to be defended from enemy attacks, for example. It's not remotely as involved as a dedicated factory game but it's a lot more involved than most RTSes.

mindustry is also on pc/steam/itch! It's good. And yeah, mindustry and riftbreaker are very similar, but different enough.

Mindustry is really focused on fighting escalating waves and getting a high score. You are also personally not great at fighting. It also features missions where you need to assault enemies. Only basic resources are mined directly, most need to be produced, with quite involved chains of production, and you need to transport your resources to your factories and turrets.

In contrast, Riftbreaker has pretty 'set' attack waves at certain times, escalating only when you trigger them by upgrading your main base or building certain structures. Also, you are very powerful and can handle huge hordes of enemies by yourself. You make all your resources directly except a few liquid ones, which have 1 step. All solid resources are global and don't need transportation, which makes it a ton simpler.

Riftbreaker: combat focused, gather resources by exploring, scanning, and expanding, to build your final building to finish the game.
Mindustry: build focused, stripmine a region and turn it into valuable resources to build more advanced turrets to get to higher waves and destroy stronger outposts

Today, just in time for Halloween, Inscryption comes out.

It's a creepy card game where you're trapped in a shack in the woods and play against a strange dark presence. The rules are brutal where you need to sacrifice weaker animals in order to play stronger ones, sometimes even sacrificial altars appear on your path. The kicker? From time to time you get to stand up from the table and solve some The Room-style puzzles around the place in order to get closer to escaping and other times....cards start talking to you. Check this poo poo out:

There's a demo available on the store page as well if you want to see if it's something for you and it absolutely sold me on this title in its first minutes so I already pre-ordered and I'm just waiting for the game to unlock in 7 hours. The dev is the creator of the excellent Pony Island so you know you're in for a treat.

I gave this a shot for about two hours on game pass and was bored out of my skull. You get two weapons per dungeon dive(one for each hand) that you choose at the beginning of a run and you unlock a bunch of passive modifiers for them in a run like +range, +damage, bleed, poison, etc. that just add numbers and don't change weapon behavior much.
