My brother in law is a big Jorp man. He has all his books, and they have pride of place in his bookshelf.

Although it has somewhat died down, for a good while he just couldn't shut up about Jorp. Whenever he would hear of anyone having literally any problems in their life, he would sagely stroke his chin and say, "hmm, sounds like they need some Jorp".

He is a member of some kind of Jorp Club, and they went on a big funding drive to bring his speaking tour to our country/city. Part of this funding was that all the Jorp guys would buy a shitload of tickets beforehand, to make sure enough tickets would be sold to make the Jorp visit a reality. He thus ended up sitting on a stack of Jorp tickets that he then unsuccessfully tried to huck onto friends and family.

So yeah, this dude is all Jorped up.

As with all other Jorpers, he responds to any and all criticism of Jorp that he can't answer with "well, that is just taken out of context, you need to watch all of his lectures and read all his books to understand.

So anyway, the point of this story is this - I was arguing with him about Jorp a couple of weeks ago, and I bring up the chaos dragon diagram and a lot of the other inane stuff from his books.

He responds with absolute confusion for a little while, before telling me that this is just all made up by someone trying to discredit Jorp.

In this beautiful moment I realized that this motherfucker hasn't read a loving word of his idol's books. He is just infatuated with the idea of Jorp.

I'm pretty sure the only people who have actually read Jorp's books are anti-Jorps hatereading them in order to discredit them. A big part of his success is that nobody who actually likes him has read his books.

Everything else aside, it's incredily weird to think that a significant part of left wingers are involved in speed running, a very niche video game activity. Evidently leftists don't have a monopoly on being extremely online to the point where your entire world is your Twitter sphere.

Also lol that classical has to be complicated to be enjoyable.

I know this is from a month ago, but Mozart and the like are painfully straightforward compared to modern classical. Time changes, key changes, difficult melodies and harmonies, etc, they're all more complicated and sophisticated than this lady realizes. Modern stuff sometimes sounds more simple, but modern composers are (naturally) more sophisticated than their predecessors.

It's obvious she's never played in an orchestra, even as a casual hobbyist. She definitely never took the time to even look at sheet music to compare compositions, so of loving course none of those composers and conductors she tried to interview didn't want to talk to her. Why should they waste their time on such a lazy dipshit who can't be bothered to do the most basic research?

I never read the whole thing; I started with the "Clean your room" rule since that seemed to be the most popular. It was a disjointed mass of idle musings on how happiness is obviously not an emotion that actually exists, and stories of biblical-era monarchs who got shanked or ousted by their courtiers. I know it was supposed to be a reiteration of the biblical "fix your own poo poo before getting into anyone else's" rule, but what it actually says is "the author has crippling anhedonia and also I guess don't turn your back on people before you've made sure they won't stab it."

Having read it, I naturally skipped to the "Be Precise in Your Speech" chapter and it started with a rambling anecdote that went on for several paragraphs, that was clearly not making a deliberate, ironic point. I never made it to the end of that one, because that alone told me how much the book was worth.

Not sure about leftist thought but the speed running community is pretty positive on things like inclusion and trans rights in general. Like GDQ kicked out a bunch of right wing reactionary shitheels and in general don’t tolerate being poo poo to trans runners in chat. That’s probably where it’s coming from.

Doesn’t mean they’re into workers owning the means of production, but right wingers tend to confuse not being a terrible human being with leftism.

Despite all its weird imagery and angst I never got the feeling NGE was particularly subtle about its themes of depression, alienation, and far too young people being forced into roles they are utterly unprepared for while surrounded by exploitative, abusive and equally damaged adults failing miserably at their duty of care.

I'm applying the duck principle. if he talks like a neo-Nazi and acts like a neo-Nazi, he's a neo-Nazi. He might not consider himself one, but we don't need to respect the opinion of the guy who acts like a Nazi but "really isn't, but they make some good points"

I believe Jorp’s ideology is what is commonly referred to as cryptofascism, and he is one of many “garden variety chuds” who is too stupid to realize that what he’s serving is just reheated nazi ideology.

I think he’s one of those who has said that he doesn’t subscribe to any ideology, which is the first sign of a deeply ideological person.

I agree. Hell, I think Jorp is more harmful the way he is now - Someone who makes a lot of nazi talking points, dressed in the veneer of respectable intellectual conservatism. He makes people who would not be open to hearing a actual nazi out open to actual nazi ideas.

I don't really care nor think it matters what Jorp believes in the privacy of his mind - That doesn't matter, what matters is the effect he has. But I don't think he is actually a cryptofascist. At least, I don't think he thinks of himself that way.

I think Jorp is someone who would absolutely be a outright Nazi if that was something you could be in today's society while remaining a respectable member of society. It is extremely important to him to be seen as a erudite and respectable intellectual, and if he went full nazi he'd lose that.

Basically I think that this guy would be a full blown Nazi in 1930s Germany. He wouldn't have been one of the OGs, but he would have jumped aboard the second that they became dominant.
