Like, bojo could throw together some legislation declaring the tory party the only legitimate political party of the UK, abolishing the devolved governments, bringing back hanging, and completely undoing the NHS tomorrow. The lords would of course send it back, but they can only do that three times, and he could chuck in a clause abolishing them too for good measure.

I mean he could, but that all sounds like a lot of work and they can already do whatever they want anyway

The Tories don't want to outlaw Labour.
They want them there to cede power to just before everything goes to poo poo, so they can point at them in the following General Election and say "Look, Labour did all of that. It was Labour. Not us."

If Priti Patel infected every asylum seeker in the UK with smallpox just before Labour took office, you goddamn know that Laura Kuenssberg and her fellow shitweasels in the media would blame Labour for the ensuing deaths and pandemic.

All of them. The armed forces swear allegiance to the monarch and push comes to shove in this particular case I'm fairly sure enough of them would come out on her side that there's your war right there.

More realistically we're not talking Battle of Naseby 2: This Time We All Have The Same Haircut here. Let's assume a rather more competent and *deliberately* evil leader of the Tories.

To avoid libeling anyone I'll spoonerise their name so instead of Boris Johnson I'll say Joris Bohnson, for example. So Joris Bohnson dies in an unlikely photo shoot disaster involving a matador outfit and an extended metaphor about red rags that goes too far, and after Rominic Daab fails to get onto the ballot because he was too dim to post it in time and Gichael Move decides to retire from politics to become the moistest DJ in Ibiza, the keys to number 10 are handed to Priti Patel.

She has an 80 seat majority but they've upgraded Kiethbot to 0.2 and he can appear to be a human being up to 9% of the time and polls are turning against her (for some reason an awful lot of Tory voters are less happy about voting for her than they were for her predecessor). She uses her predecessor's tragic death to push through the Dignity Of Politics Act which (as well as banning investigations into deliveries of LSD and strychnine in bovine doses to the Home Office just before the old PM's death) outlaws all opposition parties, criticism of politicians, and calling people bald on Twitter, and also declares the Prime Minister to be the head of state, completely removing the Lords, Privy Council, and Crown from their constitutional positions while keeping them in name.

Well for a start - even if there aren't enough true believers in monarchy on the Tory benches to overcome Kieth abstaining - the Lords are going to slap that straight down. Of course they can only do that for a year, but in that year I'm assuming a lot of people will be wanting quiet words in Patel's ear about things. She pushes through that, and the Privy Council, and the law gets passed. The Queen will just refuse to sign that. Even as constitutionally flexible as Brenda has allowed herself to be, there are some lines she (and any member of the current Royal Family, lest Patel try sneaking a couple of her angry bulls into Balmoral at Christmas) will not allow to be crossed.

That puts us in a constitutional crisis but not actually one that's not been thought about. At that point - if Patel insists that the law be signed - she can dissolve Parliament and call for a new election, and (as I said before) put that law in the manifesto. Assuming she wins (a big assumption - yes, Tory voters are fundamentally reactionary but at the same time a *lot* of them are also extremely, well, conservative. They *will* lose a shitload of votes on that manifesto.

Still for the sake of argument let's assume - perhaps through Kieth endorsing the Lib Dem tactical voting website - that they do still win. Well the Lords can't oppose or amend the law when it comes back to them, so it goes straight to the Queen... who's going to refuse to sign it again. I'm very, very confident in this. Charles I'm slightly less confident about but I suspect he still wouldn't sign it.

So this leaves us with something that by definition isn't a law. The question isn't "Who would fight the Tories", the question is "Who would fight the Queen?". The majority of the civil service and armed forces *would* stick with what the law - and the monarch - says. Police and intelligence agencies I'm not quite so sure about but even worst case it's going to be a significant minority on the monarchist side. That's a rout before it even starts, and if Patel attempts to give orders that she's not constitutionally or legally entitled to I'm fairly certain very few would follow. Of course an EDL Friekorps would, I'm sure, make themselves very much available for the fight - and I'm not certain that they'd be as easily beaten as we think - but the point is that at that point we're in a full-blown civil war, except it would be rather more like an insurgency and in a country as densely populated (and with supply lines as long) as the UK that's going to be a short but *incredibly* deadly one.

The point isn't that one side or the other would handily and easily win, the point is that that kind of constitutional reform *will* be paid for in blood, and Patel would get quietly removed by her own side long before it got to that point because like I say that sort of thing is very bad for profits.

one of the reasons the tories hated bercow was because he had a clique of "favourites", which was just a short list of the mps who actually bothered to show up and ask questions about bills, without a party whip threatening to expose their sex crimes. The reason rees-mogg and the old labour left were able to pull off the occasional bit of procedural bullshit was because they were the ones who showed up and asked things like "so what are the rules here, how does this work" at the end of the day

The actual job of an mp is roughly "to represent their constituency", which is exactly as vague as it sounds. The convention is that you do this by having surgeries or, now, an email address and a team of spads, and by discussing things at parliament, but there's no actual job description and not that many MPs bother doing any work.

This is interesting because I was going to make a similar post in response to the hypothesis that a Tory PM with a large majority could simply legislate away all opposition. It still requires most of the Tory MPs to vote for it, and i think that's a harder ask than voting for eg austerity etc. A majority doesn't automatically confer unlimited power on the PM, and I believe that there are some Tories who actually do have some integrity (in certain spheres at least...), the misguided rather than plain assholes, who would not vote for such a plan.

Tories refuse to grant a referendum, SNP run in all 650 seats, but the nationalist vote are so disgusted by the SNP chasing English votes they get crushed there like Labour before them, eventually PM Nicola Sturgeon refuses a referendum to FM Douglas Ross, God just decides to send another flood.

It is important to note that this is the usual group of absolutely batshit insane anti-lockdown Tory gammons, these guys have been hanging around debates spouting any old bollocks since Bercow made it easier for them to pretend to be useful in London so they can avoid going back to the plebs in their constituencies - none of them hold any actual positions on committees or in government so they have to be *seen*.

They usually end up meekly doing what the whips tell them after all with a “loyalty and loyalty to the party is my core value”

I love that my frankenbong brings so many smiles :) It's one of the reasons why I'm making the V.1 into a ridiculous behemoth that's going to be as over the top as I can make it, but I am planning a more realistic V2 model that people can easily replicate, using water cooling instead of a heatsink, but I'm going to have to save up for a while before I can afford to get the bits to make it.

Nobody in the specialised vaping groups I'm in have ever heard of sub zero distillation tube cooling like this used for vaping, so I got that earlier poo poo video recorded just so I can claim prior use to stop anyone from attempting to patent it as theirs. I have no plans to patent anything myself, but I loving hate patents, so this should allow anyone to take the idea forward. The owner of the Slingshot Channel on youtube does the same with his inventions, and he claims it works.

The difference between taking a sub zero cooled hit and a normal hit is like explaining to a blind person what it's like to see. I cough my lungs up with unfiltered vape hits. With sub zero cooled hits, I barely feel it enter my lungs and never seem to cough - yet I'm taking super dense hits due to Charles Law compressing the vapour etc.
