Wasn't able to snag a 6 pro 256, but did update my 4XL to android 12. The animation when you plug it in is amusing.

cage-free egghead posted:Nah, having a 6 day separation from reveal until review is pretty sus Apple literally just did this a month ago. Apple was a bit less restrictive on what they were allowed to show on a first look, but let's be real here. Phone announced on Sept 14th Phone went on sale Sept 17th MKBHD's first hands on was Sept 21st Full review if the regular 13 hit on Sept 27th Full review of the iPhone 13 MAX ht on Oct 1st The Verge's full review was earlier than MKBHD, but it was still the 21st. So, the phone was on sale for 4 days before ANY embargo went down and it was 7 days after it was revealed. If we were to follow apple's timeline, just pretend that no one has their hands on any yet and the review embargo will go down a day earlier than Apple let theirs after the event.

Now had my third order cancelled today by them. They don't seem to know why this is happening and are only offering to get back to me. At least I have a backup one pre-ordered through Best Buy but I'd rather get the credit for trading in my current phone from google.

I swear I saw different styles of Android 12 analog clock widgets before launch. But I only see one style of analog now, and no way to change it. Is there some way to adjust it, or is that some Pixel 6 exclusive or something?

A Bad Poster posted:Wait, so can you do the Pixel Pass if you're already a Fi subscriber? Yeah. For the Pro, its $420 more over 2 years than just the phone. If you don't use all of those services, then maybe it isn't entirely worth it, but for the $5 Fi reduction ($120) + device protection ($216), that's most of the additional cost for something I already am paying for. I'm just not clear if this is a contract? Am I locked into the Pixel 6 for 2 years without being to get a Pixel 7 next year if I want to do that?

Are the Fi pixels via the Google Store unlocked or are they somehow tied down to having to be on a Google Fi plan?
|
# ? Oct 19, 2021 23:33 |

Almost certain they are unlocked as fi doesn't really have contracts

I had a 6P and then a Pixel XL from Fi and the only thing was I couldn't uninstall the Fi app, even after I switched carriers.

So, I'm one of the weird ones who actually like the new lockscreen clock, but, for some frustrating reason, the Always On Display doesn't wanna stay on. The settings all seem to be correct, but the screen still goes completely dark after a little while. Anyone else seeing this? (I'm on a P4XL fwiw)

Now granted I only went from Android 8 to 11 a few weeks ago when I got my 5a, so I don't actually know what I'm talking about, but isn't the whole point of an android phone in general that I can customize just about anything? It's baffling to me that ya'll are talking about a lockscreen you can't change, is that just the state of things these days or am I missing something?
|
# ? Oct 20, 2021 00:16 |

I got a Pixel because I don't want to customize anything. I don't really understand why they have to change the design language with every version, but if the Pixel [insert version here] means Google is finally going to compete directly with the iPhone, then I guess they need to assert some kind of cohesive look and feel across their product line please ignore YouTube and Gmail as they are apparently their own thing.

So I guess the rumour about a guaranteed 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security turned out to be wrong. It's 3 years of OS updates and 5 security. That's pretty disappointing to me.

I'm still waffling on whether I want to get a 6 over the 6 Pro. Like the telephoto is exciting, and the LTPO display might be awesome for battery life, but is it worth the $300 extra? I have a yellow Pro ordered already

Android 12 is fine, I guess? It's very blobby. My only real complaints so far are minor and petty. (Give me a NFC toggle blob goddammit) so I don't hate it but I kind of don't see the point either.
