What does people "minting" their own NFT's even mean in this situation. The Authors will only accept medium posts linked via an on chain JSON? I don't understand what these people think NFT's are, or what they think it enables.

Coiiners don’t even realize the biggest scam artist is themselves because they’ve been ripped off so many times their ego simply can’t handle it anymore. Munchausen’s by blockchain.

quote:It solves the problem through biometrics: the Orb captures an image of a person’s eyes, which is converted into a short numeric code, making it possible to check whether the person has signed up already. If not, they receive their free share of Worldcoin. The original image will not need to be stored or uploaded. In contrast to many centralized services we use today, no other personal information is required. Through modern cryptography, this numeric code is also not linked to the user’s wallet or transactions, further preserving user privacy. so uh, what stops me from just submitting a series of numbers to this network and saying "yeah these are my eyeball numbers i'm a person give me money"? is the answer "nothing"? because i think the answer is "nothing"

So how many of these "you should include a blockchain!" pitches are just the same "buy my book!"(excluding divabot's book for obvious reasons) pitches on radio shows except attempting to be elevated to national-level finance. And/or just a trojan horse plan to have 69.420 million dollars "mysteriously" vanish three months later due to one line of code being faulty while the person who said "you should include a blockchain!" also coincidentally took a permanent vacation to the Carribean and IRS audits show a suspicious uptick in yacht purchases in the same timeframe

so their magic orb will have a zero false positive or negative rate when they scale up to all ~8B people? sounds plausible. i'm sure their customer support team will help people unlock their accounts when they develop cataracts also, someone is going to get shot if they try this eye scanning devil device in the US

i went looking to see if they actually have tried to answer the "why can't i just give this thing fake data" question and this is as close as they come:quote:Using the iris also enables a strong degree of fraud-resistance. In the context of our biometric uniqueness check, this means we need to reliably detect if someone attempts to spoof the biometric capture (e.g., using animals or special contact lenses). Since cheating a uniqueness check only requires looking different than any existing user, the fraud resistance property of the iris is critical. The iris is inherently hard to modify and enables better ways to verify liveness compared to other common biometrics like faces and fingerprints. you see in order to spoof it you would need to create a fake iris to scan and that's really hard. no we cannot think of any kind of flaw in this reasoning.

quote:A photo (not a render) of the Orb production model. The device has a diameter of 20 centimeters and weighs around 2.5 kg (5 lbs). The surface of the Orb is mirror chrome. An LED ring guides the user through the sign-up process. Behind the black surfaces, the Orb has an eye-imaging system, infrared LEDs for illumination, and a fraud-detection system. An exchangeable battery is accessible from below to enable continuous mobile operation. stare into the Orb's dark black void, its hidden unseeable intelligence will judge if you are worthy to unlock its secrets
