After I went on the implant I had some really bad cramping, and at one point on a whim I decided to try to completely relax and see how that worked for the pain, instead of staying curled up into a tense little ball. Holy poo poo never trying that again.

Holy poo poo I know this is literally the opposite response most people have after their covid vaccines but in the months since then, my periods have dropped from like eight days with five heavy flow days to four days with only really two days of actual flow. My peak's gone from filling a night towel in an hour or two to a normal towel that's still got plenty of real estate after an entire day at work. And no cramps or flow colour changes or anything to suggest something's wrong with me. For anyone who's had theirs get worse, I am so loving sorry.

FWIW you might have some luck going through PP, the ones near me are very progressive about body diversity. Or if you have a queer health center nearby — even if you’re cis and straight, you’d be supporting them with your (or your insurance company’s) dollars. Have you tried CBD? I’ve heard good things about the topical lotions for period relief.

Anyone else remember your first time hearing about your period? I don't remember my age, but I do remember sitting in 4th grade in a Special Health Class that was all girls, and how the teacher passed out little bags with pads and coupons in them. She probably gave us a small rundown, but what I remember most was that if the boys, in their own health class, made fun of us at all, we were to tell the teacher asap and they would get detention. Sadly that was all I took from the class. And the rest of the girls as well. The boys were, for once, tight lipped for the rest of the week. But here is the basic poo poo of puberty. Boys: you will get taller and stronger. Your voice will crack, which will make everyone laugh like gently caress. Zits probably. Oh, and that thing between your legs isn't just for peeing, you are gonna want to stick it into everything because it will feel good. You will wake up with wet sheets but it's not pee; masturbate before bed and it might help. And you will get body hair but that's fine, you will look manly. Girls: you will grow taller than the boys at first. Your voice won't crack. Zits very likely. The thing between your legs is going to start bleeding every month. No, you won't feel it come out like pee, you can't control it. No, every month. For about a week. For the rest of your life. It will not feel good. Cramps will happen. And any time you get upset about anything, people will ask if you are on the rag. You will wake up with wet sheets, and no, your pee should not be red. That's the blood. There is no way to stop it. And you will get body hair and that is not fine, you need to shave or pluck it because it is gross otherwise. Oh, and if a boy kisses you, he wants to put his dick in you, and you will get pregnant. Even as a kid I thought it was pretty loving unfair. At least if boys had to have periods too, it would be more balanced. In high school one classmate did tell me, proving how great sex ed is, that "having to jerk off is just like having a period" and if more girls understood that, the world would be a better place.

It was the most bare bones explanation of sex and periods. I just remember them dunking a tampon into a big glass of water. They didn’t very clearly explain that they don’t swell up that much when you use them. Thankfully my Mum is really chill and explained everything to me properly. She was told nothing by her Mum. Just tossed a pad on her first period and told to sort herself out. My Mum made a point that if I had any questions about sex or periods then to ask her rather than worry as she didn’t want me to go through what she did as a kid.

Planned Parenthood can't do anything for period problems except prescribe birth control for it, anyway. PP was my gyno for years, and I'm very happy with the service I got there. Unfortunately, they don't really cover the kind of issues you and I have with our periods, so I had to switch providers. (I'm not going on hormonal birth control again, gently caress that. It didn't even help that much.)

Edibles can do that to me too, but I also get "weed hangovers" if I take too much. It's usually just a low grade headache and feeling kinda oogy. A salesperson at the dispensary I go to was telling me that you can take an edible before going to sleep for the night so you wake up high, but that's just a whole different level of commitment to being stoned. Also no clue if it actually is true

Go to doctor with concerns of my mental health drastically diving right before my period. Sobbing uncontrollably when doing my job over literally nothing was an example I used, but have a lot of different examples. Intense, unfounded rage, absolutely endless anxiety, and a tenuous grasp on normal behavior at best. Leave with a birth control prescription (adding more hormones to the mix) and a wait for over a month (and two periods) before I can see a psychiatrist. I can tell you that sure enough, I'm affected by the God drat hormones now. Like, all while building up to my period, but ALSO after taking the first couple of pills after the dud week. I'm a loving mess. Still have a week before a psychiatrist will see me. American health care is a loving joke.

I am not a uterus haver, but my sister is, and what she thought was typical ovarian pain and hellacious cramps turned out to be appendicitis. She let it go on for about a week in increasing pain before she finally turned to the doctor. By the time she was seen, it had ruptured. Luckily they caught it in time and were able to remove the infection from her abdomen with a drain she had to wear for a week or two. However, with staff shortages in hospitals right now, She actually didn't get her appendix removed until today. The rupture happened at least a month ago. She's doing well, though
