'sides the position manipulation skills, there any easy way to pick up where you left off?

There’s a teleporter back to town every 10 floors, and you’ll get progressively more and more powerful movement skills until eventually corpse retrieval is completely trivial.

But also since your power is determined pretty much entirely by your gear, and you keep items and money after a team wipe, it’s normally pretty easy to just gear up a new team and catch back up.

Ubisoft is hardly the best value to hour. You gotta play MMOs or JRPGs.

MMOs don't compete well because they have an ongoing cost. well i guess they don't always but i don't know if the free to play ones/versions are capable of soaking up thousands of hours.

for me personally the best value/hour was probably dxball (2?) on windows in 1999. that's cheating cuz it's free. next up is maybe hollow knight.

there's a story in hollow knight?

No matter how one loves, there are always different aims. Love can take a great many forms, whatever the era.
The story in Hollow Knight is very Dark Soulsish, in that you don't really need to know about it to actually complete the game and a lot of it is stuff you piece together from NPC dialogue, lore-filled signs or descriptions of items.

Again a very likpatous story

Nah, I understand it. I've been playing the poo poo out of Pioneers of Olive Town, the most recent Story of Seasons game for the Switch. I recommend that nobody buy it. I'm a brokebrained idiot who likes it but it is objectively a very bad game.

So unlike Metroid Dread which actually has a story and tells you the story with spoken dialogue and cutscenes

There are. Even with just bog-standard Metroid sequence-breaking stuff (shinesparking, bomb jumping, wall jumping) you have a lot of options, and when you get into Metroid Dread specific tech (pseudo-waves, slide jumps, damage boosts) then you add in even more.

Just off the top of my head, stuff that I have personally done with only a small bit of practice:

Skip Kraid and Diffusion Beam until well after Plasma Beam, resulting in Kraid never spawning and getting his item for free.

Doing that by getting Grapple Beam and Bombs early, going to Ferenia and doing an easy pseudo-wave clip to get past the Diffusion barrier and nabbing early Speed Booster.

Skipping the Drogyga fight entirely with an admittedly obnoxious pseudo-wave clip.

Getting Super Missiles early which is admittedly inconsequential but fun.

Skipping Spin Boost and going right for Ice Missiles with a Water Bomb Jump, and then using and a pair of easy Shinesparks those to skip way ahead to Cross Bombs.

Using those Cross Bombs and a Shinespark for early Space Jump.

Using that Space Jump and a Water Bomb Jump to get Screw Attack before Gravity Suit, thus skipping the entire frozen Arteria segment and the Experiment Z-57 boss.

Using that Screw Attack to clown on the Storm Missiles boss.

There's other stuff, too: these are just "I read a three line description and watched a two minute Youtube video and got it managed in twenty minutes" things. There's at least three other major skips I want to try to learn, and the game's been out for only two weeks.

Also started Picross S3 recently and man that tune is great. I love how they keep adding QOL stuff like being able to remove all of those placeholder marks instantly. Was that in the previous two?

I loved GnG, but it is quite difficult as it goes on and I didn't finish NG+ because it requires a certain level of patience. If you like the older ones it's very faithful.

My strat was to train a solo character to take advantage of the double damage when solo ability and give them an attack-all weapon and the best defensive gear I can afford with PP and train them up somewhat quickly. It can be risky, but it also makes it much easier to rescue your old party since you have three open slots, and your solo character should wipe encounters in two turns with enough defenses to not take HP damage.

Probably just some upscaling and maybe a couple QoL fixes. I don't expect a ton out of it, especially since it has such little fanfare and is being announced like 3 weeks before release.
