Have you been paying attention to Arsenal's transfer decisions over the past decade?

This got me thinking about Arsenal’s worst transfer dealings. Let’s see.

Sending Gnabry on loan forever until he wanted to leave us a big one.
Xhaka
Mustafi
Andre Santos
Willian
Soares
Saliba
Torreira
Guendouzi
Lucas Perez
Kolasinac
Spending all their money on Lacazette and Aubameyang in back to back windows
Mhkitaryan
Kolasinac
Asano

That’s the last 5 years in no particular order. I’d say letting Martinez go is somewhere in the middle.

Tough to know the truth of moves that didn't happen, but passing on Vardy and Cesc returning are up there for me too, if they were close to happening

Gnabry wasn’t playing well at all until he left the club permanently. As for Martinez, Arsenal desperately needed the money and no one was gonna sign Leno.

Arsenal’s main fuckups have been signings, not sales. Paying that kind of money for Saliba and Pepe should be grounds for firing an entire management team.

Gnabry had just had a big injury and Arsenal wanted a loan to get him back to full fitness.
He got good playing time before that

That Bayern got in his ear, that's hard to deal with. Tapping up.

Are they even playing good football this season? They just seem completely ineffective at the back and Pukki is back to looking like a sub championship forward.

he was sold to bremen because arsenal refused to sell to bayern, so bayern arranged a roundabout deal. Gnabrys contract at Bremen had like a specific buy-out clause for Bayern.

Seeing this in a fairly comprehensive list and of just the last 5 years it truly is shocking how poor they've operated. Obviously every club will have hits and misses but the degree, variety, and staggering cost associated with these failures for a club of their size is impressive.

Hell, maybe they should get a trophy for it.

And that list isn’t even including players who haven’t been particularly good signings but have been somewhat serviceable like Holding, Luiz, Sokratis El Neny, etc. Arsenal have been terribly mismanaged since the last couple years of the Wenger era. They seem to get about one useable player in about five transfers. The rest just hang around and collect paychecks until their contracts are up.
