yeah also it was obvious from i don't know how to describe it, the way the camera moved in a jerky fashion? "impossible crane shot" my rear end, there wasn't a crane involved -- that was the camera (possibly held) getting pulled up, pulled over, carried, then moved down the visible cables. More impressive if the system was moving around a person carrying the camera, but it was still really obvious that there were people hauling on ropes to lift the camera in the initial impressive part of the shot vs. "impossible crane".

"crane shot" is understood as a description of the move (a shorter vertical move is called a pedestal/ped). neither term implies a certain method of rigging. you can do a crane shot with a jib arm, a lift, or indeed with cables, not just with a crane. i'd add that in 1964, when soy cuba was made, hollywood's greatest visual stylist was releasing dr strangelove, which is great and all but this shot and movie shits on it in terms of visual innovation. for 1964 you can call this shot impossible.
