It's 100% Alec Baldwin's fault. Before the shooting he was heard saying "There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber." And after ricocheting the bullet into the cinematographer he was heard again saying “It doesn't feel right to shoot an unarmed woman… but I'll get over it.”

is there a word for when something is technically an accident but people had to deliberately make so many aggressively idiotic decisions for it to have been possible that 'accident' doesn't really do it justice

if there isn't can I suggest the word 'baldwin'

If it's well known that firing blanks can still cause injury/death, why was he shooting directly at a human being?

Like unless the scene absolutely had to be shot with a handheld camera or something, why would they not set up the scene, hit record, clear the area, THEN fire the weapon toward the camera?

because everyone working on it was a scab and it was filmed in AZ to be cheaper so they didn't have to follow stringent safety regulations

Someone shouted out loud near Alec that every worker on set was union and the labor dispute had been resolved, so he believed that to be true when he murdered his coworker and attempted to murder another.

according to the guardian https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/oct/23/crew-on-baldwin-film-raised-prop-gun-concerns-before-fatal-shooting

this is the AD who handed Baldwin the loaded gun: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002577/

Has a pretty prolific career with a lot of action movie credits so what happened there?

Urban Legends: Final Cut contains a scene in which a real gun is tossed into a drawer of non-firing replicas and people are in a panic to find it

I imagine this set was like that

Yeah, there really aren't any great reasons to have real bullets on a set, even fewer to have them actually loaded into a gun. Leaving a gun sitting around loaded on a table or whatever will get you ejected from the average shooting range for being a dipshit - it's just such an easy thing to avoid for such obvious safety reasons.

Alec Baldwij was so deep into method acting on this piece that he would have 3 ADs wrap his head in a damp cloth and fit him with noise cancelling headphones so he would have no knowledge of the "film". He would be transported by wooden hand cart back to his trailer, which was fit out to look like a prospectors cabin.

Once there, no mention of the films production could be discussed and he adopted an ol' timey western accent.

Alec Baldwin personally fired anyone who had any knowledge of fire arms whatsoever who was working on this project including one man who tried to tell him not to hold them backwards, that is how personally dedicated he was to making sure this got hosed up and that he himself was liable when this happened

But what I do
I do
because I like to do.

The fact that there are multiple reports of there not being any sort of emergency medical personnel on site is both incredibly believable as much as it is insane. Bonanza Creek Ranch is like 10 to 15 minutes from Santa Fe And 35 minutes from Albuquerque, and these are the outskirts of each, and only from the highway. This isn't counting the long winding unpaved road to get to asphalt to get to the highway. Even without the gun aspect, they were absolutely setting themselves up for failure.

Look people are saying why were there real bullets on set. They were in wild hog country of course they have bullets everywhere.

When 50 wild hogs come through there set lusting for blood you got much sure everyone has plenty of guns and bullets to protect themselves. Gotta be safe.

Of course as Alec baldwin was the one who trained all the hogs to lust for human blood in the first place he could of prevented this.
