I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Also, in case you've never come across this info before:

If you're going to cook over wood fire, the absolute best is oak, then mesquite, alder, and hickory, then fruit trees like cherry, apple, peach, pear, and olive, then nut trees like pecan or walnut.

It's also safe but not optimal to burn wheat straw / hay or corn cobs.

Bradford pears, redwood, birch, cypress, cedar, and ash should not be used to cook food unless you're in a desperate situation because they'll make the food taste disgusting, BUT they're not toxic.

Pine has a reputation for being "poisonous", but it is technically safe, and it does have a nice smell. The sugars in the sap cause eye irritation and will make food absolutely gross as hell, though.

All of the above, as well as untreated grass, pine cones, and pine needles are safe to use as kindling to start a wood fire from the "good" list.

Elm, Sycamore, and Eucalyptus are absolutely vile tasting.

Almost all shrubs should always be avoided.

100% of vines should never be burned.

Rose, Sassafras, Yew, and Teak contain major cancer-causing carcinogens that will pollute food, and cause respiratory failure if inhaled.

Absolutely NEVER cook with or breathe the smoke of treated wood, building materials, or pallets as they contain immediately lethal toxins / carcinogens.

I'm looking at getting a cord of wood for the fireplace this winter and there are tons of ads on Facebook marketplace for broken down pallets and construction leftovers being offered as free firewood.

I have some leftover wood in my backyard from the previous owner, I burned what I could last winter and what's left over is what was left directly on the ground and gotten moldy. You shouldn't burn moldy wood either. Oh and there's what looks to be part of a telephone pole. I have no clue where they got it but I sure as hell am not burning that indoors.

It’s all pallets. They set up scores of these before every 12th July and then set fire to them, usually burning down several nearby houses in the process

Chestnut sounds like it would be good for smoking/barbecuing as you'd want a relatively low heat anyway.

I've smoked pork & brisket with logs from my friend's old cherry tree and I'm working thru an oak tree I've felled from my back yard last year.

Good to know not to use Bradford pear. I assumed pear trees in general were ok.

CHEP is a company that makes and rents pallets. They make their money by charging a ridiculous deposit fee and suing anybody who steals or sells their pallets. They can be identified by the distinctive blue paint on the sides
