I also use Overcast. I believe you can just go to settings for a show and tell it to sort episodes from oldest to newest.

Yes I know, but the times I used oldest to newest it still started playing newly downloaded episodes in between the old episodes. I haven’t tried it for some time because I got the habit of just making a playlist when I have podcasts with a lot of old episodes. So maybe that all got fixed or I did something wrong in the first place.

I can't speak for Pre-history Human civilizations, but if you're talking paleontology and fossil animals, as well as geological eras and all in between I highly recommend the Common Descent Podcast. It's definitely big on Natural Sciences but they do focus a ton on fossil animals and their geological eras. The hosts have a good chemistry, they're very knowledgable and you got a nice back-log to dig into. Great for the lay-person.

Glad you liked it. I've spent far too long looking for good and fun zoology podcasts, that aren't just people reading wikipedia pages, and that's definitely one of the best.

If you want stuff on contemporary animals I can suggest The Wild Episode, which I adore, and for more light-hearted and charming stuff Strange Animals Podcast, which delves a bit into cryptozoology but not much. The latter is a great show for kids too.

A man becomes preeminent, he's expected to have enthusiasms.

Enthusiasms, enthusiasms...
I was listening to public radio this morning and they were talking to two true crime people, one male one female (might be two male, I think one was talking about true crime in Africa)

one of them was doing a thing about a case where a teacher was shot in her classroom by two men and this was witnessed by the kids and the investigation went nowhere. Does this sound familiar? I think it had one word in the title

Whoa that does sounds interesting, thanks for recommendation.

Not a podcast but there was another bank robbery in early 2000s committed by Army rangers in Tacoma, WA, that had utterly bizarre details and a relative of one of the guys involved wrote the book Ranger Games. Top tier recommendation for true crime and answering why the heck four rangers would throw away their lives for not much money.

Kinda spoiler years of high level training and they miss a giant stack of bills in the vault, chose to rob a bank one of the guys used regularly instead of going to another town, and simply forgot to remove their front license plate so the FBI was on them instantly.

Unprompted, but I've been listening through a whole lot of Plumbing the Death Star in the last six months, and even though the name is a Kevin Smith joke, it's genuinely funny. Three Australian dipshits try to puzzle out how they think they'd navigate pop culture scenarios.

Highlights include: What's Wrong With Wizards?, Is It Really That Hard to Capture and Eat a Smurf?, How Would You Handle Brum Living in Your Village?, Which Comic Book City Would Be the Worst to Live In? and much more

Each episode is pretty much self-contained so you can hop in wherever.

Bill Corbett of MST3K and Rifftrax hosts one called Ringheads, I haven’t listened to it yet but it’s Brain Guy so it’s gotta be good. I think it just wrapped up too.

E: listened to the first few episodes, other than the Silmarillion it’s all about the movies. Pretty good so far, but not a scholarly deep dive if that’s what you’re looking for.
