In an interview with American Conservative, Kunstler attacked gay marriage, describing it as "cultural mischief" that would further damage "a struggling institution".[9] He is a subscriber to the conspiracy theory that the 2020 United States presidential election was fraudulent, describing it as a "fraud-inflected election" on his website, and he suggests that the 2021 storming of the United States Capitol was the work of left-wing groups.[10]

In recent times, Kunstler has had financial problems,[11] and was described as "seethingly angry" about his writing income falling to only a few thousand dollars annually because of "the tidal wave of free content on the web". In addition, his "lucrative college speaking fees" have disappeared, which he blames on "the rising hysteria on campus against threatening ideas". Kunstler now uses Patreon to crowdfund his writing.[11]

Yeah Kunstler's a good example of somebody who was smart/right about one thing (America's suburban hellsprawl and its disastrous effects, i genuinely enjoyed the majority of Geography of Nowhere) but dumb and wrong about tons of other stuff. I remember reading his blog and he always had a weird overzealous hatred of tattoos and tattooed people and would bring it up way more than was actually relevant. Always felt like that was a classic conservative boomer calling card so none of that above is surprising, though it is funny how he can't accept that nobody wants to pay to listen to an old man complain and blames free online content. Somebody should tell him how much the cumtown boys make.

He seemed a little frantic about COPE26 being "our last chance to survive" because we have to limit to 1.5c with 50% reductions by 2030 "to have a fighting chance" because 2 or 3 degrees is so bad we won't survive.

The anchor said "But you do bring us some good news"

that good news is that they are introducing new proposals at COPE26 to establish an early warning system for the super hurricanes

The good news is we're introducing an early warning system for hypercanes.

The bad news is we'll definitely need it.

At a guess it's from industries shutting down and moving to other countries which make things to be consumed in the US. Externalise those CO2 emissions, baby!

COP26 is our last chance to get things right, that is until COP27 in Egypt, which will be the final chance to get things right... unless we come up with a plan at COP28 (location TBD, somewhere in Asia) which will be the last chance to get things right.

Is it even worth it to recycle plastic? I've drastically reduced the amount of it I consume either way, drop in the bucket I know

Do you mean, is it worth it in the sense most of it won’t be recycled anyway? Still yes.

Do you mean in the broader sense, is there any current scenario where recycling plastic is more economically efficient than making new plastic? No. The value added by recycling some plastic is that the existence of recycling is PR to reduce political pressure to limit the production of new plastic
