loving Vince Lombardi probably couldn't win a game with that roster.

Yeah, the Lions roster is dire and Goff is even worse than everyone thought.

Campbell is not a very good coach but you didn’t hire him for that, you hired him to just exist while you try and build an actual team that will take years. So firing him accomplishes nothing

But the pondering was if a 3rd team would give him a job when this Lions thing ends. Maybe he becomes the Tank Commander of all bad teams. They are going to lose, but you bring him in because everyone loves him and people want to watch what he says.

Campbell is there to rebuild the team, and that requires a coach that people actually want to play for. His players love him - he'll stick around.

No rebuilding requires getting good players. Then when you start winning that’s when everyone pretends there was some culture shift or whatever

If that doesn't count...then it's George Wilson in 1964 who went on to become the first coach of the expansion Miami Dolphins.

Someone should be fired just for that final offensive drive where the Broncos, just needing to burn thirty seconds to win, recover their own fumble, make an incomplete pass, then lose a fumble.

Campbell isn't going anywhere after this year or after next year, thanks for reading my post. If he doesn't get another HC job after this, he'll be another in a long line of coaches whose careers have gone to Detroit to die.

In terms of "Why are the Lions sucking," Campbell ranks pretty low. He's not entirely blameless, and today he made some pretty bad in-game decisions—including the baffling choice to receive the kickoff after winning the coin toss, and a really bad 4th down call right before the half. But while he's made mistakes, it's still abundantly clear that the core problem is the sheer lack of talent, which has been execrated by the horrendous injuries. When the Lions started the game today, they were without a full half of their starting lineup: LT Taylor Decker, C Frank Ragnow, WR1 Tyrell Williams, WR2 Quintez Cephus, and RB Jamaal Williams (Who's technically listed on the depth chart behind Swift, but currently leads the team in rushing yards, even after today's game). Most teams would struggle to succeed given the sheer breadth and depth of injuries, and the Lions have suffered even further due to the overall lack of talent and depth—Frank Ragnow alone is arguably the single best player on offense, and his absence has severely impacted the running game and what little there is of the passing game. A bit of Campbell's shine definitely came off this game, but even if the Lions do go 0-17 I think there's very little chance he'll be fired. Bill Belichick would struggle to succeed with this roster and these injuries, and Campbell has managed to keep the team competitive against some of the best competition in the league. The real question is if Campbell continues to make bad mistakes in-game, and if the team is able to remain at least somewhat competitive in the tough games they have coming down the stretch. (Which is gonna be real hard since Goff is a goddamn anchor on this offense. the man cannot loving throw downfield. how the gently caress did mcvay win any games with this)

Sean McVay is literally the only coach who has ever won a game with Jared Goff. Not just games, a singular game. Goff is 0-14 under Jeff Fisher and Dan Campbell.
|
# ? Nov 1, 2021 02:35 |
Goff has been so goddamn bad I don't think the Lions can justify continuing to start him. He is blatantly not even a bridge QB, and he's so bad that he's actively preventing you from accurately evaluating the rest of the offense (or the rest of the team for that matter).

Found Jared's burner account The really unfortunate thing is that it's not like the Lions have some rookie with promise waiting in the wings—the backups are currently David Blough (Whose stats from his 5 starts in the 2019 Stafford-less season are somehow even worse than Goff's this year, and somehow managed to fumble on his second snap of the handful he got at the very end of the game today), and Green Bay Preseason Champion Tim Boyle, who's still on IR. The prospects for the rest of this season are very, very bleak.

Going to 1-15 against the Falcons on the road would be funny. And it's not a particularly hard schedule is the thing that gets me.

They've shown they can compete against some of the top teams in the league... but also just fell completely flat against one of the worst teams. So knowing how this season is going, they'll steal one against the Cardinals and then immediately get blown out by Atlanta.

If you're a head coach as a defensive specialist and you can't beat a backup qb no one has ever heard of who played at Central Michigan in college you need to go. On top of this his conservative offensive philosophy has run through countless coordinators finally landing on the nepotism hire of his friend Gary's son, Klint Kubiak. Zimmer has to go. Spielman has drafted well but he also signed Cousins and Cook to big long term contracts so I wouldn't mind a complete house cleaning.
