"could be good but," with good animation. worth a shot at some point just for the hell of it. I've heard rayearth is pretty solid tho speaking of Bones, I think i once drunkenly tweeted at Dai Sato and asked him why he let them do that poo poo to Eureka 7 lmao

Shockingly, he didn't answer a drunk dude from the other side of the planet. I imagine the answer was probably something like "not under his control" It may shock some people considering my avatar is a character from e7 in the style of gay porn but it really upset me when everything made after the original e7 run was absolute trash

I don't know what happened to bones but it's crazy. Fuckers have not managed to put out a single good product since E7. And all their sequel work is just making GBS threads all over their good ideas

Some of the best animators, even, but the writing staff and directors just... yeuch

For whatever it's worth, I've heard the second Hi-Evolution movie was good or at least better than the first one of those. The third movie is also coming up relatively soon too. But yeah, in general most Eureka 7 content after the show has been disappointing at best.

In Pocketful of Rainbows the crew of the Gekko are a bunch of children and teenagers who were experimented on by the military and inflicted with rapid aging, so they're all embittered youths in adult bodies. Holland is initially villainous because he and the rest of the crew are angry that their lives have been cut so short and they're trying to achieve [something I've forgotten] before they die of their rapid aging, before eventually turning after realizing Renton and Eureka are the chosen ones who need to do it in their place etc. There's a scene where for some incomprehensible reason two of the Gekko crew try to assault Eureka, and are promptly turned into paste by Nirvash It's not quite as bad as what AO's final episode does to Renton and Eureka as characters, but it ain't great.

also if you actually watch the stage play the entire thing is the fbi guy coming on stage and ranting about cancel culture and facebook while the tamers go 'was this dude always this weird' and 'i wanna go home' and then the cancel culture digimon shows up and they easily beat it its stupid and cringy but its also clearly making fun of itself. extremely funny that the response to an old dude making some boomer posts about cancel culture was to try and cancel him, tho. also funny that everyone stopped caring in the like 4 days between the stage play spreading around and him writing a post basically going 'yeah that was kind of stupid, sorry.' really illustrates how deeply they actually cared about chiaki j konaka, lol
