It's beautiful. And it's for the god of...of...arts and crafts. I think that's what he said.
Thinking about how Lucas tried passing on the Phantom Menace to other directors but they refused because they thought George was too good even when in reality it was his wife and the directors of ANH and TESB that carried the original trilogy

I thought it was perfectly acceptable in 1080p on a 12' projector screen, and the main things I missed from the full IMAX experience was being coughed on by random people during a pandemic, $15 popcorn, and raging tinnitus upon leaving the theater.

edit: I did watch it home alone so I could blast the 5.1 to my own tolerance, and having the bass set high enough that I could physically feel the sandworms making my living room jump was pretty cool. So, I bet IMAX would be more mind blowing, and I'd do it if I could have the theater to myself and access to the volume knob.

That's a pretty sweet set up.

The benefit of the pandemic and catching a show midday on a weekday os that there's not a lot of people in the theatre with you. We were like a dozen people maybe, so it was pretty awesome. And when they did The Voice i felt it in my bones, so i felt the sound was well calibrated!

I know that's not what you mean, but I do feel it's a bit unfair to blame the technology (Or Lucas, for that matter ) for the lazy directors who use it to make up for their shortcomings.

yeah, i'm not blaming him or the tech, but man the degenerate nature of every blockbuster now being a mess of cgi nonsense mashed together is sad to see. i guess marvel is really responsible for making it the winning formula in hollywood tho

My sense of time is kinda scrambled, but I vaguely feel Transformers predates even the MCU at this stuff, with all their supeebusy cgi and a gazillion moving parts.

The early mcu films actually had pretty good vfx, back when they made an effort and didn't just greenscreen everything

Yeah whatever it was neat and stylized enough that the inferiority of the CGI a decade ago doesn't matter. I am rewatching MoS right now and is pretty good.

The aesthetic of transformers caused sensory overload lol. It doesn't help that the movie was full of tacticool operators going toe to toe with giant death robots. Snyder's capekinos at least show the military being completely ineffectual.

the transformers movies are definitely early offenders at least with the characters themselves, but it wasn't until the third one when the third act is just nonstop cgi backgrounds that just kinda blur together. you're right that the first couple mcu movies are a bit more grounded with their effects, but avengers set them on a path and age of ultron completed it, to where its all one big blob of cgi

god the action in the transformers movies is so bad. anytime its not in slow-mo its just visual gibberish. you'd think bay would be better at this poo poo. and i say this as someone who enjoys the transformers movies both for being big and stupid and for their repugnant politics

Ah yes. My high school was thoughtful enough to stock the room used for in school suspension and detention with basically a full set of cliff notes for most things you might be asked to read in a high school english class.

I believe getting detention was the only reason I "read" The Crucible and some loving Jane Austin novel.

I think many ways of enjoying things are valid, and enjoyable! Flipside, my personal favorite painting is Miro's Carnaval d'Arlequin. I have a full size reasonably high quality lithiograph of it. It's also in the permanent collection of the Albright Knox museum, and I used to go stare at it for extended periods of time there.

I enjoy the print, but, it's a very different experience. If I was .1%er klept class, I'd buy the original.

that's because it's a couple of foppish dandies saying French phrases like "je juene" or referencing Baudelaire as if most folks do that.

I often google the jokes only to realize they're not as funny as just the way David Hyde Pierce delivered it.

Snyder also took the heroes as modern myth thing completely seriously and took it to it's logical conclusion. The snyder cut literally shows cyborg watching a bear and a bull fight each other over a treasury building while his dad tells him he has complete power over the world's financial system. There's a sincerity to his work which is incredibly refreshing when you compare it to your average marvel movie.

At the end of the day comic books aren't modern myth because myths get reinterpreted by people over time. Cape comics are owned by giant corporations who use it as a product.
